Abstract
Donald Trump adalah seorang wirausahawan yang ikutserta dalam pemilihan presiden Amerika Serikat sebagai calon dari anggota partai republik. saat kampanye calon presiden, dia menyatakan pernyataan kontoversial yang mengundang banyak reaksi negatif dari banyak orang, terutama oleh warga Meksiko di Amerika Serikat. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini mencoba untuk meneliti reaksi dari orang orang Meksiko terhadap pernyataan Donald Trump, dan mencoba menganalisa jenis dari diskriminasi yang dilakukan oleh Donald Trump didalam pidato calon presiden nya. Pendekatan sosio-psikologi digunakan untuk menganalisa isi dari pernyataan Trump dan mengklasifikasikannya kedalam skala prasangka negatif karya Gordon Allport, dan menenemukan keterkaitan antara prasangka negatif dan reaksi masyarakat melalui teori komunikasi karya Harold Lasswell. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya keterkaitan kuat antara prasangka negatif yang terpublikasi luas oleh Donald Trump dan reaksi orang Meksiko didalam masyarakat Amerika Serikat.
English Abstract
Donald Trump is an entrepreneur who participated in the US presidential election as a candidate for the republican party. During his presidential campaign, he declared many discriminative statements towards Mexican People in the United States. Therefore, this study attempts to examine the reaction of Mexican people who live in the United States towards Donald Trump statements, and to try to analyze the use of discriminative verbal statements by Donald Trump in his presidential campaign speech. Socio-psychological approach is used to analyze Trump’s discriminative statements and classify it in the scale of negative prejudice by Gordon Allport, also finds a connection between negative prejudice and people’s reaction through communication theory by Harold Lasswell. The results of this study indicate a strong linkage between disseminated negative prejudice by Donald Trump and the reaction of Mexican people in the United States society.
