Abstract

Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) adalah jenis komposit dengan mengkombinasikan dua material atau lebih yang memiliki komposisi kimia penyusun berbeda. MMC digunakan untuk memperbaiki sifat mekanik material. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari penambahan fly-ash terhadap porositas dan kekuatan tarik pada komposit A6061 dan fly-ash. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode penelitian eksperimental. Tekanan hidrolik pada Squeeze Casting adalah 120 MPa selama 60 detik. Variasi serbuk fly-ash 0%, 1%, 5%, 10%. Ukuran butir serbuk fly-ash 50-60 μm. Pengadukan komposit menggunakan metode stir casting. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai porositas rata-rata dari fly-ash 5% lebih rendah dari fly-ash 0%, 1%, dan 10% yaitu sebesar 0.98 %. Nilai kekuatan tarik rata-rata dari fly ash 5% lebih tinggi dari fly-ash 0%, 1%, dan 10% yaitu sebesar 159.59 MPa. Sedangkan porositas rata-rata tertinggi dari fly Ash 10% yaitu sebesar 1.007 % dan nilai kekuatan tarik rata-rata terendah dari fly-ash 10% yaitu sebesar 82.57 MPa. Dari penelitian diketahui penambahan serbuk fly-ash mempengaruhi nilai kekuatan tarik dan porositas. Butir Fly-ash yang mengisi rongga antar butir Aluminum mengakibatan nilai kekuatan tarik meningkat dan nilai porositas menurun. Pada spesimen dengan penambahan fly ash 10% memiliki nilai kekuatan tarik lebih rendah serta nilai porositas lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan spesimen lainnya. Hal ini dikarenakan tidak meratanya persebaran fly ash di dalam rongga aluminium dan terjadinya penggumpalan fly ash.

English Abstract

Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) is a composite obtained by combining two or more materials that have different chemical compositions. MMC is used to improve mechanical properties of material. The aim of the research is to find effect of the fly-ash addition on porosity and tensile strength of A6061 and fly ash. This research was conducted using experimental research method. Hydraulic pressure on squeeze casting was 120 MPa for 60 seconds. Variation of fly-ash was : 0%, 1%, 5%, and 10%. The grain size of fly-ash was beetwen 50-60 μm. Stir casting method was used in mixing the composite. The experimental result showed that the average porosity of sample with 5% fly-ash has lower value than the sample with 0%, 1%, and 10% of 0.98% fly-ash. The average tensile strength of specimen with 5% fly-ash was higher than other specimen with 0%, 1%, and 10% fly-ash with the value of 159.59 MPa. Meanwhile the sample with the highest average porosity was 10% of fly-ash with the value of 1.007% and the lowest was 82.57 MPa. From the result it was found that the fly-ash’s addition influenced tensile strength and porosity. Fly-ash grains fills the cavities among aluminium grains that can increase the value of tensile strength and decrease porosity. Samples with 10% fly-ash has lower tensile strength and higher porosity than the other specimens. It was caused by the disparity of fly ash among aluminium grains cavities and the fly-ash clumping
