Abstract

Peningkatan populasi lansia secara keseluruhan di seluruh dunia membuktikan bahwa life expectancy atau angka harapan hidup masyarakat meningkat. Di satu sisi, fenomena ini membuka peluang lebih banyak untuk masyarakat bereksplorasi dan memberikan dampak pada komunitas, tetapi di sisi lain fenomena ini juga meningkatkan angka kejadian penyakit kronis, utamanya neurologi, seperti fungsi kognitif, dan kardiovaskular. Selain usia yang semakin tua, kebiasaan merokok juga dinilai dapat berpengaruh pada fungsi kognitif. Berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya, pada perokok lebih berisiko terjadi penurunan fungsi kognitif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kebiasaan merokok terhadap fungsi kognitif pada lansia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian cross-sectional yang menggunakan data sekunder Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS). Data kebiasaan merokok didapatkan dengan mengelompokkan responden, yaitu merokok, pernah merokok, dan tidak merokok, sedangkan fungsi kognitif didapatkan dengan menggabungkan penilaian Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status (TICS). Faktor sosiodemografi dinilai dengan pertanyaan usia, jenis kelamin, status pendidikan, wilayah pemukiman, dan status ekonomi. Variabel lain yang digunakan adalah BMI, penyakit kronis, gangguan tidur, dan apakah responden melakukan aktivitas fisik sesuai dengan standar WHO. Hasil analisa dilakukan dengan menggunakan regresi linear pada aplikasi STATA versi 14. Hasil uji statistic mengemukakan bahwa terdapat efek signifikan pada kelompok merokok dengan penurunan fungsi kognitif, begitu pula pada kelompok masyarakat dengan usia lebih tua. Hasil variabel lain yang diujikan ternyata juga memberikan perspektif baru pada penelitian.

English Abstract

The overall increase in the elderly population throughout the world proves that people's life expectancy is increasing. On the other hand, this phenomenon opens up more opportunities for people to explore and have an impact on the community, but on the other hand, this phenomenon also increases the incidence of chronic diseases, especially neurological, such as decreased in cognitive function, and cardiovascular. Apart from getting older, smoking habits are also considered to have an effect on cognitive function. Based on previous research, smokers are at greater risk of decreased cognitive function. This study aims to determine the effect of smoking habits on cognitive function in the elderly. This research is a cross-sectional study that uses secondary data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS). Data on smoking habits was obtained by grouping respondents, namely smoking, never smoking, and never smoking, while cognitive function was obtained by combining the Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status (TICS) assessment. Socio-demographic factors were assessed with questions about age, gender, educational status, residential area, and economic status. Other variables used were BMI, chronic diseases, sleep disorders, and whether the respondent carried out physical activity according to WHO standards. The results of the analysis were carried out using linear regression in the STATA version 14. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a significant effect in the smoking group with decreased cognitive function, as well as in groups of people with an older age. Other variables also show new perspective to the study.
