Abstract

Kompetensi pragmatis memiliki aspek yang sangat penting untuk memahami dan menjalin komunikasi khususnya bagi pembelajar EFL (English as a Foreign Language). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki frekuensi tindak ilokusi beserta makna dan fungsinya serta representasinya yang terkandung dalam dialog buku teks EFL berjudul “Pathway to English 1” untuk SMA kelas X, yang menerapkan kurikulum terbaru, kurikulum Merdeka Belajar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Tindak tutur dalam dialog dianalisis menggunakan taksonomi tindak tutur Searle (1976). Hasilnya menunjukkan total 236 tindak tutur (ujaran) dari semua dialog dalam buku teks. Frekuensi tindak tutur adalah sebagai berikut: representatif berjumlah 101 ujaran (43%), direktif berjumlah 94 ujaran (40%), ekspresif berjumlah 29 ujaran (12%), komisif berjumlah 12 ujaran (5%), dan deklaratif tidak ditemukan di semua dialog. Sementara buku teks menunjukkan representasi tindak tutur yang baik dalam taksonomi Searle. Berdasarkan temuan, penelitian ini menyarankan guru atau instruktur bahasa agar menjadi kritis dalam memilih buku teks untuk proses pembelajaran dan bagi penelitian selanjutnya disarankan untuk meninjau lebih jauh mengenai studi tentang korelasi aspek pragmatic competence lainnya.

English Abstract

Pragmatic competence has a great important aspect of understanding and establishing communication, especially for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners. This study aims to investigate the frequency of illocutionary acts along with their meanings and functions as well as their representations contained in the dialog in the EFL textbook entitled "Pathway to English" for Senior High School Garde X, which applies the latest curriculum, the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Speech acts in dialogues were analyzed using Searle's (1976) speech act taxonomy. The results show a total of 236 speech acts (utterances) from all the dialogues in the textbook. The frequency of speech acts is as follows: 101 utterances are representative (43%), 94 are directive (40%), 29 are expressive (12%), 12 are commissive (5%), and declarative is not found in all dialogues. While textbooks show a good representation of speech acts in Searle's taxonomy. Based on the findings, this research suggests that language teachers or instructors be critical in choosing textbooks for the learning process, and the implication of this study, for further research, it is suggested to look further into studies of other aspects of pragmatic competence.
