Abstract

English Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata) is one of the potential horticultural commodities to be developed because it has economic value, has a shorter production period, and has a sweeter taste than ordinary corn. This of course will affect the demand for sweet corn which is getting higher along with the increase in population from year to year. However, currently the productivity of sweet corn in Indonesia is still low, so it has not been able to meet the demand for sweet corn. The low productivity of sweet corn can be caused by one of them, namely the low C-Organic content in the soil of 1.49%. Efforts that can be made to increase corn production are through the application of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and goat manure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) and goat manure on the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata). The hypothesis in this study is that there is an interaction between PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) and goat manure which influences the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata). The research was conducted in IP2TP Jambegede, Experimental Garden, which is located at Pertanian Street No. 06 Kemiri Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency, East Java. The tools used in this research include measuring tape, stationery, analytical scales, label boards, measuring cups, cameras, caliper, SPAD (Soil Plant Analysis Development), and LAM (Leaf Area Meter). The materials used in this research included talenta variety sweet corn seeds, water, PGPR, goat manure, NPK Fertilizer, and an insecticide with the active ingredient emamectin benzoate. This research used a split plot design which consisted of 2 factors, namely PGPR as the main plot with 2 levels, R0 = without PGPR and R1 = PGPR 20 ml l-1. Meanwhile, the second factor was the application of goat manure with 4 levels, P0 = without goat manure or 0 ton ha-1, P1 = 5 ton ha-1, P2 = 10 ton ha-1, dan P3 = 15 ton ha-1. There were 8 treatment combinations and each treatment was repeated 4 times to obtain 32 experimental plots. The observed variables consisted of growth components (plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, chlorophyll, plant dry weight, and crop growth rate), yield components (fresh weight of cob with cornhusk, fresh weight of cob without cornhusk, length of cob, diameter of cob, yield of cobs unity hectare. The data will be obtained then analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). If there is a significant on the treatment then analyzed or performed by further tests using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level. The results showed that there was an interaction between PGPR and goat manure on the parameters of plant height, leaf area, cholorophyll, plant dry weight, crop growth rate, nutrient uptake, fresh weight of cob with cornhusk, fresh weight of cob without cornhusk, length of cob, diameter of cob, and yield of cobs unity hectare. However, the number of leaves parameter did not show any interaction between PGPR and goat manure. The application of PGPR 20 ml l-1 and goat manure doses of 10 ton ha-1 and 15 ton ha-1 gave the best results on severaliv observation parameters such as plant height, leaf area, length of cob, fresh weight of cob, and yield of cobs unity hectare. The 20 ml l-1 PGPR treatment and 10 ton ha-1 dose of manure produced sweet corn of 16,59 ton ha-1 which showed an increase compared to the control treatment of 21,36% while the 20 ml l-1 PGPR treatment and 15 ton ha-1 dose of manure produced sweet corn of 16,36 ton ha-1 which showed an increase compared to the control treatment of 19,68%.
