Abstract

English Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the active substance in red fruit peel (Pandanus conoideus Lamk.) as a substitute for AGP on growth performance, gut characteristics and egg fatty acid content. The materials used were 200 quails aged 28 days, basal feed and red fruit peel. The study consisted of 5 treatments and 4 replications, namely P0: 0% red fruit peel; P1:0.25% red fruit peel; P2: 0.5% red fruit peel; P3: 0.75% red fruit peel; and P4: 1% red fruit peel. Variables observed in stage 1 research were active substance content, antioxidant activity and bacterial inhibition and stage 2 were production performance (feed consumption, Hen Day Production, Egg Mass, feed conversion, Income Over Feed Cost), intestinal characteristics (number of villi, villi height, villi surface area, crypt depth) and egg fatty acid content. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and the data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by Duncan's test if there was a significant difference. The results of the first phase of the study showed that the fruit peel contained phenolic, flavonoid, tocopherol compounds with the test results of 652.49 mg GAE/100g, 143.08 mg/100g and 2.11%/100g respectively, the dye in the form of beta-carotene was 197.69 μg/g and anthocyanin of 33.74 mg/100g and has a strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 75.785 μg/g. Antibacterial activity in red fruit peel has a weak inhibition zone but has a very significant effect on Escherichia coli, Salmonella SP and Lactic Acid Bacteria (P<0.01). In stage 2 research showed that the addition of red fruit peel have a very significant effect (P<0.01) on IOFC value, intestinal characteristics and linoleic fatty acid content. The addition of red fruit peel as a phytobiotic up to a level of 1% can improve growth performance, intestinal characteristics and fatty acid content of quail eggs.
