English Abstract
This study aims to determine the profile of farmers who adopted biogas and to compare the economic benefits of biogas and non-biogas. The research was conducted in Sendang Village, Tulungagung from March 7 to 15th 2022. The research was included in a mixed quantitative method through surveys and qualitative using interviews. Sample of 52 people are smallholder dairy farmers which is members of KUD Tani Wilis who use biogas installation, live in Sendang Village, and are willing to be interviewed. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and calculating the economic benefits of a biogas stove as a substitute for 3 kg LPG and kerosene. The results showed that the majority of household profiles using biogas were aged 46 to 60 years; the last level of formal education is elementary school or not even going to school; the number of dependents is only 1 or 2 person; 21 to 30 years of farming experience; forage land rented from PERHUTANI; the number of dairy cows between 6 to 10 heads; subsidy for the cost of making a biogas installation obtained by farmers from the KUD as of March 2022 is Rp 4,500,000 and cost of the shortage paid from deducting milk deposits; the duration of using biogas is more than 9 years; and the volume of biogas is 6 m3. The income obtained of substitution cost compared to 3 kg LPG for Rp 20,000 per family scale 1 is Rp 506,836.4/month; scale 2 of Rp 841,800/month; and scale 3 is Rp 1,324,800/month. Meanwhile, the substitution cost for subsidized kerosene is Rp 3,500 per family scale 1 is Rp 119,547/month; scale 2 is Rp 198,555/month; and scale 3 is Rp 312,480/month. The use of biogas stoves in the smallholder dairy farmers house tends to be more economical because through an analysis of the economic benefits the equality of biogas compared to non-biogas is quite a lot per month so it can reduce household expenses for purchasing LPG and kerosene.
