English Abstract
Propolis is a natural ingredient that has many benefits, namely as an antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, and anticancer. In various in vitro studies, propolis showed proapoptotic activity in different types of cancer cells. Transfersome has been commonly used to increase the penetration of drugs derived from natural ingredients. Gelatin is a chemical compound that can be used as an emulsifier because it has a hydrophobic part in the peptide chain. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal gelatin content based on physical tests as an emulsifier in the manufacture of emulsions for transfersome cream ingredients. The research method used was experimental laboratory with 6 gelatin concentration treatments, namely 1% (F1), 2% (F2), 3% (F3), 4% (F4), 5% (F5), and 6% (F6) with 3 replicates. The results of statistical analysis showed that the manufacture of emulsions using different concentrations of gelatin had a highty significant effect (p<0.01) on viscosity values, color intensity L*a*b*, and electrical conductivity, but had a significant effect (p<0.05) to the pH value. The conclusion of this study is the use of 4% gelatin (F4) shows the appropriate emulsion results as on the market, so that F4 can be used as a good transfersome cream.
