Abstract
English Abstract
Salt has an important role in the leather tanning process because salt facilitates the entry of the tanning agent into the leather and determines the physical properties of the leather. This research was carried out to know the effect of differences in salt concentration on the physical quality of rabbit fur leather. This study used rabbit skins with different salt concentrations in the process of tanning fur rabbit skins with salt concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Then the skin was tanned with alum tanner in which all treatments were repeated 4 (four) times. The leather obtained was then tested for tensile strength test, flexibility test, and elongation at break test which were then analyzed using ANOVA. From the research, it was concluded that differences in salt concentration did not affect the quality of rabbit fur leather and could not improve the quality of rabbit fur leather on tensile strength and elongation at break. Meanwhile, differences in salt concentrations affected the quality of rabbit fur-tanned leather and improved the quality of rabbit-tanned leather for laxity, namely the best treatment at P3 with 15% salt analyzed using a 20 mm ring of 5,18 mm and the best treatment at P3 with 15% salt analyzed using a 25 mm ring of 5,4 mm.
