Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perspektif siswa dan guru tentang isi buku kerja yang digunakan di kelas bahasa Inggris mereka dalam hal ICC. Penelitian ini juga menyelidiki peran buku kerja dalam pengembangan ICC siswa berdasarkan perspektif siswa dan guru. Responden di penelitian ini adalah 216 siswa dari kelas XI SMA dan guru bahasa Inggris mereka. Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Data kuantitatif dikumpulkan melalui angket skala likert, dan data kuantitatif dikumpulkan melalui angket terbuka dan wawancara siswa dan guru. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa pada umumnya siswa dan guru memiliki pandangan yang sama terhadap isi lembar kerja, mereka menganggap bahwa lembar kerja tersebut baik dalam merepresentasikan komponen ICC. Namun, ditemukan lembar kerja tersebut masih kurang pada beberapa aspek, seperti muatan budaya yang disajikan dalam buku ajar masih bias budaya dan juga kurang membekali siswa dengan kegiatan atau latihan yang mampu melatih siswa keterampilan membandingkan, memecahkan masalah budaya yang berbeda, dan menafsirkan suatu budaya. Meski begitu, dari hasil penelitian, siswa dan guru berpendapat bahwa lembar kerja bermanfaat untuk membantu siswa mengembangkan ICC-nya. Menurut siswa dan guru, lembar kerja memegang peranan penting sebagai sumber informasi budaya bagi siswa. Selain itu, siswa dan guru disarankan untuk lebih menambahkan budaya Indonesia dan budaya internasional serta merancang kegiatan seperti mengumpulkan dan menganalisis informasi budaya, studi banding, dan beberapa kegiatan lain yang dianggap mampu membantu mengembangkan ICC siswa

English Abstract

The aim of this study is to discover students and teachers perspective on the content of the workbook used in their English language class in term of ICC. This study also examining the role of workbook in students’ ICC development based on students’ and teacher’s perspectives. The participants were 216 students from eleventh grade of senior high school students and their English language teacher. The data was collected quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative data collected through a likert scale questionnaire, and qualitative data collected through open ended questionnaire and students and teachers’ interview. The finding reveal that generally the students and teacher share the same view toward the content of the workbook, they were think that the workbook good at representing the ICC component. However, it was found that the workbook still lack on several aspects, such as cultural content presented in the workbook still culturally biased and also it lack on providing students with activities or exercises that able to train students comparing skills, solving different cultural problems, and interpreting a culture. Even so, from the results of the research, students and teachers think that workbook is useful for helping students develop their ICC. According to students and teachers, workbook plays an important role as a source of cultural information for students. In addition, students and teachers suggested to add more Indonesian culture and international culture as well as designing activities such as collecting and analyzing cultural information, study tours, and several other activities that were considered capable in helping develop students' ICC
