Abstract

English Abstract

OBJECTIVE : To determine the association of components of the metabolic syndrome with DED. METHODS : This is an analytic study with a population-based cross-sectional design. The research population is the residents of Mendalanwangi Village, Sidorahayu, Cempokomulyo, who are members of the Smarthealth population with age > 40 years and suffering from metabolic syndrome, as many as 427 people. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling. The available data was then processed according to the variables and assessed for OSDI Score, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), Tear Break Up Time (TBUT), and Tear Meniscus (TM). RESULTS : A total of 427 SM respondents obtained 174 DED respondents. A significant correlation was found between SM components, hypertriglyceridemia (Odd Ratio 1.80, P=0.006), low HDL (Odd Ratio 2.27, P=0.000), and DED. Meanwhile, gender, age, and other components of SM were not statistically significant. CONCLUSION : There is a significant relationship between the components of SM hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL with DED. Meanwhile, the other SM components, hyperglycemia and hypertension did not find a significant relationship.
