Abstract

Makalah ini meneliti pengaruh karakteristik rumah tangga dan tlatah terhadap partisipasi kerja dan sekolah anak di Jawa Timur. Prevalensi anak usia 10-17 tahun yang bekerja di Jawa Timur sekitar 4,74%. Sekitar 28,03% anak yang bekerja masih bersekolah. Sedangkan anak putus sekolah mencapai 11,28%. Mengacu pada teori collective model dan menggunakan metode analisis regresi multinomial logit pada data Survei Penduduk Antar Sensus (SUPAS) 2015, makalah ini menyimpulkan bahwa jenis kelamin KRT, pendidikan ibu, jenis kelamin anak, umur dan pendidikan anak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap partisipasi kerja dan sekolah anak. Selain itu, bahan bakar utama memasak, jenis lapangan pekerjaan dan status dalam pekerjaan utama KRT, bargaining power orang tua, status wilayah tempat tinggal serta tlatah anak juga berpengaruh signifikan. Menariknya, jika pendidikan ibu setara atau bahkan lebih tinggi dari ayah, partisipasi anak bekerja meningkat dan sebaliknya partisipasi anak sekolah justru menurun. Sedangkan anak yang berasal dari tlatah Arek paling berpeluang untuk bekerja.

English Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of household characteristics and cultural region on children’s labor force participation and school. The prevalence rate of children ages 10-17 who work in East Java is 4,74% and around 28,03% are children who work yet they still go to school. Meanwhile, the dropout rates of children reach 11,28%. Based on collective model theory and by using multinomial logistic regression analysis method on the data of Inter-Censal Population Survey 2015, it can be concluded that the sex of the head of household, mother’s education, children’s sex, age and children’s education have a significant influence on children’s labor participation and school. In addition, the main cooking fuel, type of jobs and the status of main occupation of the head of household, parent’s bargaining power, the status of the region of residence and also the cultural region have a signifcant influence as well. The interesting part of this case is, if mother’s education is as equivalent or higher than father’s education, children’s labor participation increased and children’s participation to attend school is decreased. Meanwhile, children who are from cultural region are most likely to have most of opportunities to work.
