Abstract
Konsentrasi kepemilikan keluarga di kawasan Asia Timur yang tinggi memunculkan konflik kepentingan antara pemilik saham mayoritas dan minoritas yang secara potensial dapat memengaruhi kebijakan dividen perusahaan. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguji pengaruh kepemilikan keluarga terhadap kebijakan dividen. Disamping itu, penelitian ini juga melakukan pengujian terhadap peran moderasi board of independence dalam memperkuat pengaruh kepemilikan keluarga terhadap kebijakan dividen. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa kepemilikan keluarga memiliki pengaruh yang negatif terhadap kebijakan dividen, namun dengan adanya board of independence justru kepemilikan keluarga menjadi berpengaruh positif terhadap kebijakan dividen. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada teori agensi tipe II yang menyoroti konflik yang terjadi diantara pemegang saham mayoritas oleh keluarga dan minoritas yang dapat dieliminasi dengan mekanisme tata kelola perusahaan yang baik
English Abstract
High concentration of family ownership in East Asia has led to agency conflicts between the majority and minority shareholders potentially affecting the company’s dividend policy. This study aims to examine the effect of family ownership on dividend policy. This study also examines the role of board of independent as a moderator in strengthening the influence of family ownership on dividend policy. The result proves that family ownership negatively affects dividend policy, but the existence of board of independent makes family ownership have a positive effect on deividend policy. This study contributes to the theory of agency type II which discusses conflicts between majority shareholders by family and minority that can be eliminated by good corporate governance mechanisms
