Abstract

Periodontitis kronis didefinisikan sebagai penyakit infeksius yang mengakibatkan peradangan dalam jaringan pendukung gigi, kehilangan perlekatan progresif dan kehilangan tulang. Madu dapat menjadi agen antibakteri. Hal tersebut disebabkan kandungan gula yang tinggi, pH madu yang relatif asam, dan kandungan protein yang rendah. Dengan demikian madu dapat membatasi jumlah air yang tersedia untuk menghalangi pertumbuhan bakteri. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui efektivitas madu lebah barat terhadap bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis secara in vitro dengan metode dilusi agar. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan eksperimental laboratoris dengan rancangan penelitian the post-test only control group design secara in vitro. Konsentrasi larutan yang digunakan yaitu 5%, 10%, 15% dan 20%. Variabel terikat pada penelitian ini yaitu Pertumbuhan koloni bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis setelah pemberian larutan madu lebah barat (Apis mellifera) dengan berbagai konsentrasi. Penilaian berdasarkan ketebalan pertumbuhan koloni bakteri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dari pertumbuhan koloni antara kelompok kontrol dan perlakuan dengan uji Kruskal-Wallis. Uji korelasi Spearman menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi larutan akan menurunkan pertumbuhan koloni bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis. Berdasarkan penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa larutan madu lebah barat (Apis mellifera) efektif terhadap bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis.

English Abstract

Chronic Periodontitis is simply defined as an infectious disease which affects inflammation in tooth-supporting tissues, progressive attachment loss and bone loss. Honey can be an antibacterial agent. It is due to the facts that honey has high sugar content, relatively acidic pH, and low protein content. Thus, honey can limit the available water quantity to inhibit bacterial growth. This research to determine the ability of the western-bee honey solution in handling the Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria with agar dilution method. This research was conducted by using laboratory experimental approach, specifically the post-test only control group design which based on in vitro. The concentrations of the solution used are 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The dependent variable in this study is the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis colony after being administered some western-bee (Apis mellifera) honey solution in varied concentrations. The assessment was based on the thickness of the bacterial colony growth. Based on Kruskal-Wallis test, the result showed that there were significant differences in colony growth between the control and treatment group. The Spearman correlation test resulted that the increasing of solution concentration will decrease the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria colony. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the use of western-bee (Apis mellifera) honey solution against Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria is effective.
