Christy, Abigail Marisca and drg. Ambar Puspitasari,, Sp.KGA (2020) Peran Teks Braille Terhadap Pengetahuan Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut Anak Tunanetra: Studi Tinjauan Literatur. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
OR blind children AND braille AND dental health education AND oral hygiene OR oral health knowledge.
English Abstract
Background: Oral health in blind children is worse because they could not detect the initial symptoms of tooth inflammation through the sense of sight. Provision of oral health education material with Braille is an adjustment so that blind children can understand oral health better. Objective: To discover the role of Braille texts on increasing the oral health knowledge of blind children. Method: This literature review is sourced from 7 journals obtained from online databases with keywords “visually impaired children OR blind children AND braille AND dental health education AND oral hygiene OR oral health knowledge”. Results: Initial knowledge of blind children towards their blind peers is low or moderate, thus oral health education will be potential. Braille reading process generates a reaction in blind children’s brain that shows the presence of verbal memory. The increase of oral health knowledge is obtained when blind children could understand the education given with Braille text. Conclusion: Braille text serves as a source of information on oral health knowledge in blind children. Through Braille text, the working memory ability of blind children becomes better. Braille pamphlet or booklet are expected to be able to increase knowledge of the oral and dental health of blind children effectively.
