Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the potential for stock investment in food-and-beverage companies included in the List of Islamic Securities based on their financial performance as affected by investment risk which affects the produced return. The sample of this study is ten food-and-beverage companies in the List of Islamic Securities from 2016 to 2020, selected through purposive sampling method. The path analysis was performed in SPSS. This study finds that, in sub-structure 1, profitability as proxied by ROE and ROA significantly influences investment risk, that liquidity as proxied by CR significantly influences investment risk, and that QR has an insignificant positive effect on investment risk. In sub-structure 2, profitability as proxied by ROE and ROA significantly affects stock return. Liquidity as proxied by CR significantly affects stock return, while QR insignificantly and negatively influences stock return, and investment risk significantly impacts stock return. The effect of profitability, which is proxied by ROE and ROA, on stock return through investment risk is significant. As the effect of liquidity with the proxy of CR on stock return through investment risk is significant, its effect is positive and insignificant if QR is used as the proxy.
