Abstract

English Abstract

Pneumonia is one of the acute respiratory infections that ranks as the leading cause of death in children. The role of antibiotics is very important in overcoming pneumonia so that its rationality must be considered. This study aims to analyze the differences in the effect of rationality on the use of antibiotics on clinical outcomes (length of hospitalization, body temperature, respiratory rate, pulse, leukocyte count, and oxygen saturation) of pediatric pneumonia patients. This study is a retrospective analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The research data comes from medical records of pediatric pneumonia patients hospitalized during the period January 2019 to December 2020. In the results of this study, there were 64 patients (58.18%) who received antibiotics rationally and 46 patients (41.82%) who received antibiotics. irrationally. Based on the results of the Chi Square test, it is known that rational use of antibiotics has a significant effect on improving clinical outcomes, namely length of hospitalization, body temperature, respiratory rate, pulse, leukocyte count on the second day; and respiratory rate, leukocyte count on the fifth day (p = 0.001; p = 0.001; p = 0.001; p = 0.001; p = 0.024; p = 0.009; p = 0,001). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the rational use of antibiotics accelerates the improvement of the clinical outcome of pediatric pneumonia patients.
