Abstract

English Abstract

One of the pollutants that are harmful to the environment is chromium metal. Chromium metal can be produced from the textile industry, leather tanning industry, steel coating, and others. Disposal of industrial waste containing heavy metal chromium into the waters will increase the concentration of chromium in the waters and can contaminate ground water. Research conducted by Komarawidjaja (2017) shows the results of soil analysis of paddy fields in Jelegong, Rancaekek District, Bandung Regency contaminated by heavy metals due to textile industry waste. The high content of heavy metals is Cr (0.06-174.7 mg / l), As (0.28- 4.0 mg / l) and Hg (25.9 - 92.2 mg / l), while other heavy metal concentrations, Pb (0.05 - 11.7 mg / l), Cd (0.02 - 0.17 mg / l). This study was done in laboratory scale using Vetiveria zizanioides with concentration of Cr polluted soil 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm,, with three repetitions in each treatment. Parameters observed during the study included plant height, number of leaves, temperature of media, and room temperature. The results showed that the variation in treatment of heavy metals did not affect the height of the plant but it affected the number of leaves of the sixth to eighth week, biomass, and leaf area. Cr concentration in the growing media with 0 ppm treatment had the smallest results than the other three treatments. The highest concentration was found in the 200 ppm Cr which is 19.23 mg / kg. The largest total Cr concentration in the plant is in the treatment of 200 ppm which is 4.19 mg / kg. The results showed that the BCF of Cr in vetiver plants was <1, range between 0.03- 0.012. Chromium metal is mostly found in root tissue and only a few are translocated to the shoots (TF <1).
