Abstract
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peran self-esteem terhadap penyesuaian diri mahasiswa baru. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik accidental sampling dengan sampel mahasiswa baru di semester pertama yang terdaftar aktif di perguruan tinggi negeri ataupun swasta. Jumlah responden dalam penelitian ini adalah 673 mahasiswa baru. Alat ukur yang digunakan untuk mengukur self-esteem adalah skala transadaptasi Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale-Revised (α = .836) dan penyesuaian diri mahasiswa baru yang diukur menggunakan skala transadaptasi dari Inventory of New College Student Adjustment (α = .768). Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif korelasional yang dianalisis dengan regresi linear sederhana menggunakan SPSS statistic version 25.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan koefisien r-square sebesar .334 dan p-value sebesar .000 (p < .05), sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa self-esteem dapat menjadi prediktor dengan arah yang positif dan berperan sebesar 33,4% terhadap penyesuaian diri mahasiswa baru.
English Abstract
The aim of this research was to determine the role of self-esteem toward new college student adjustment. Sample determination in this study used accidental sampling with characteristic new college student in public or private universities. The total respondent ini this study are 673 new college students. Measuring instruments that used in this research is transadaptation scale from Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale-Revised (α = .836) and Inventory of New College Student Adjustment (α = .768). This study used correlational quantitative method and analyzed with simple linier regression in SPSS statistics version 25.0. Research results prove that self-esteem has a role in positive direction toward new college student adjustment with r-square .334 and p-value .000 (p < .05). Based on this result, it can be concluded that self-esteem can predict 33,4% of new college student adjustment.
