Abstract

Penyesuaian diri terhadap lingkungan perguruan tinggi (college adjustment) merupakan tantangan tersendiri bagi mahasiswa baru. Ketidakmampuan dalam menghadapi tantangan tersebut dapat mengakibatkan masalah mental, sosial, akademik, hingga berujung pada drop out. Hal ini terkait dengan academic selfconcept yang dapat membantu untuk mempengaruhi kemampuan individu menghadapi masalah dengan memberikan respon secara emosional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara academic self-concept dan college adjustment pada mahasiswa baru. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah accidental sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 1354 mahasiswa baru. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif korelasional Pearson Product Moment. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Academic Self-Concept Scale (ASCS) dan Inventory of New College Student Adjustment (INCA) melalui proses transadaptasi skala yang telah diujicobakan. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan Statistical Package for The Social Sciences 25.0 version for Windows. Hasil data yang diperoleh menjelaskan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara academic selfconcept dan college adjustment pada mahasiswa baru. Hal ini berarti bahwa semakin tinggi academic self-concept, maka semakin tinggi pula college adjustment pada mahasiswa baru.

English Abstract

College Adjustment is a challenges among freshman. The inability to face these challenges can overcome mental, social, academic problems, untill drop out. This is related to the academic self-concept that can help to improve an individual's ability to overcome problems by providing an emotional response. The study examined the relationship between academic self-concept and college adjustment among freshman. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling with a total sample of 1354 new students. The study used the Pearson Product Moment quantitative correlational method. The instruments based on Academic SelfConcept Scale (ASCS) and the Inventory of New Student Adjustment Scale (INCA) through the trans adaptation process that has been tested. Data analysis was performed using Statistical Package for The Social Sciences 25.0 version for Windows. The results of the data obtained explain the existence of a significant relationship between academic self-concept and college adjustments for new students. This means that the higher the academic self-concept, the higher the adjustment among freshman
