Pangesthi, Tatas Hayun (2019) Hubungan antara Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) pada Pasien Obesitas dengan Kesehatan Jaringan Gingiva yang Diukur Menggunakan Modified Gingival Index (MGI). Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Obesity is a condition of abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. Obesity is thought to has an effect on periodontal tissue health mediated by pro-inflammatory cytokines secreted by adipocytes. Pro-inflammatory cytokines stimulate the production of C-reactive protein (CRP) and increase systemic inflammation resulting in increased host susceptibility against periodontal bacterial infection. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) in obese patients with gingival tissue health as measured using a modified gingival index (MGI). The study was conducted at the Janti Health Center by examining BMI, oral hygiene index simplified (OHI-S), and MGI in non-obese and obese patients with good to moderate OHI-S. Spearman Rank correlation test results showed the significance between BMI and MGI of p = 0.026 (p <0.05) with a comparison coefficient r = 0.215 which can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between BMI and MGI.
