Abstract
Penyu adalah salah satu reptil yang hidup di laut, termasuk kedalam ordo Testudinata, di dunia terdapat tujuh spesies penyu dan enam diantaranya terdapat di Indonesia, penyu memiliki satus konservasi terancam yang jumlahnya terus berkurang, semua jenis penyu dilindungi oleh undang undang nasional dan internasioal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan diversitas dan persepsi masyarakat terhadap Penyu di pantai Sumbermanjing Wetan Kabupaten Malang. Diversitas Penyu diketahui menggunakan metode visual encounter survey (VES) dan wawancara, persepsi masyarakat diketahui menggunakan wawancara. 30 Responden penelitian didapatkan menggunakan metode acak dengan tiga jenis responden yaitu masyarakat lokal, pengelola dan pengunjung Clungup Mangrove Conservation. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan Skala Likert dan diinterpretasikan dalam bentuk grafik dengan software Microsoft Excel. Hasil dari penelitian didapatakan empat jenis penyu yaitu penyu hijau, penyu sisik, penyu lekang dan penyu belimbing. Penyu hijau adalah jenis yang paling sering teramati. Persepsi masyarakat terhadap penyu dengan variabel pengetahuan masyarakat tentang peran penyu masih rendah tetapi nilai dari variabel sikap terhadap penyu dapat dikategorikan baik. Perlu keterlibatan dan peran aktif dari tokoh masyarakat untuk ikut melestarikan keberadaan penyu.
English Abstract
Sea turtle is one of the marine living reptiles. All of the species are grouped in the Testudinata ordo, there are seven species of sea turtles in the world, six of it are distributed in Indonesia. Sea turtle have an endangered conservation status and the number of each species are continues to diminish. All of sea turtle species are protected by national and international laws. The purpose of this study is to determine the diversity and public perception of sea turtle on the beach of Sumbermanjing Wetan in Malang regency. Visual encounter survey (VES) and interviews to the local people as a method to understand the diversity of sea turtle and the perception of the local people, respectively. 30 respondents were obtained using random sampling method with three types of respondents, The local communities, managers and Clungup Mangrove Conservation visitors. The data was analyzed by Likert Scale and interpreted in graphical form with Microsoft Excel software. There were four species of sea turtle obtained, green turtle, hawksbill, grey turtle and leatherback turtle, respectively. Green turtles are the most common species observed. Public perception on the role of sea turtles as knowledge variable remain low, but the value of attitude variables on sea turtle can be categorized as high. It requires the involvement and active role of the community leaders to participate in preserving the existence of sea turtle.
