Abstract

Dimorfisme seksual merupakan karakteristik manusia yang disebabkan oleh perbedaan jenis kelamin. Perbedaan ukuran pada gigi laki-laki dan perempuan disebabkan oleh adanya efek dari growth promoting kromosom X dan kromosom Y. Kromosom X berperan dalam pertumbuhan enamel dan kromosom Y berperan pada pertumbuhan dentin. Ketebalan dentin akan mempengaruhi dimensi pulpa. Tujuan: Mengetahui perbedaan gambaran radiografi tinggi dan lebar pulpa pada gigi permanen laki-laki dan perempuan. Metode: Studi observasional dengan pendekatan antropometri ini dilakukan dengan mengukur tinggi dan lebar pulpa gigi permanen. Sampel berupa 30 foto radiografi panoramik laki-laki dan 30 foto radiografi panoramik perempuan berusia 17-25 tahun. Pengukuran dilakukan dengan mengukur tinggi dan lebar pulpa gigi permanen insisif sentral, insisif lateral, kaninus, premolar 1, premolar 2, molar 1, dan molar 2 pada seluruh regio gigi menggunakan aplikasi Cliniview 3.02 kemudian dilakukan pencatatan hasil pengukuran dan dilakukan uji statistik paired T-test untuk pengukuran intra-observer reliability serta uji independent T-test. Hasil uji paired T-test menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada pengukuran pertama dan kedua (p>0.05). Hasil uji independent T-test menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara tinggi pulpa laki-laki dan perempuan serta tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara lebar pulpa laki-laki dan perempuan dimana secara keseluruhan, dimensi pulpa pada gigi permanen laki-laki lebih besar daripada perempuan.

English Abstract

Sexual dimorphism is a human characteristic due to difference of sex. The difference in sizes of male and female teeth is caused by the effects of growth promoting X and Y chromosoms. The X chromosom serves in enamel growth, while the Y chromosom serves in dentin growth. Dentin thickness will affect pulp dimensions. The aim: to figure out the difference of radiographic images of the pulp’s height and weight on the permanent teeth of male and female humans. The method(s): Observational study by anthropometric approach by measuring the height and width of pulp(s) of permanent teeth. The samples consist of thirty (30) radiographical panoramic photos for male and also that many for female, in both cases 17-25 years of age. Said measurement is performed by measuring the height and width of pulp(s) of permanent teeth through central and lateral incisor, caninus, premolars 1 and 2, and molars 1 and 2 within the whole teeth regio using the application Cliniview 3.02. Thereafter, the results of said measurements are taken and the paired T-Test statistical test are performed to measure the intra-observer reliability index as well as the independent T-tests. Results of paired T-Tests showed no significant difference in the first and second measurements (P>0.05). The independent T-Tests, however, showed a significant difference between the pulp height of male and female whereas for the width there is no significant difference which is the pulp dimension in male is greater than female.
