Abstract

Code-mixing terjadi ketika orang-orang bilingual mencampur dua bahasa untuk menjelaskan sesuatu. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis code-mixing dan menyelidiki kemungkinan alasan penggunaan code-mixing yang digunakan oleh vlogger kecantikan Indonesia dalam memberi ulasan di vlog mereka berjudul “My Top Five Foundations”. Metode kualitatif dan analisis dokumen digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah tiga vlog kecantikan berjudul “My Top Five Foundations” yang diunggah oleh Suhay Salim, Molita Lin, dan Linda Kayhz di YouTube beserta transkripnya. Dalam menganalisis data penulis menggunakan teori jenis-jenis code-mixing dan alasan penggunaan code-mixing oleh Hoffman (1991). Hasil dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa intra-sensential, intralexical dan involving a change of pronunciation ditemukan dalam ucapan Suhay Salim. Making emblematic, intra-sentential, intra-lexical dan peminjaman kata ditemukan dalam ucapan Molita Lin. Making emblematic, intra-sentential, intralexical dan involving a change of pronunciation ditemukan dalam ucapan Linda Kayhz. Jenis-jenis code-mixing yang paling sering digunakan oleh ketiga vloggers kecantikan ini adalah intra-sentential code-mixing karena pola standar kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia hampir sama. Alasan berbicara tentang topik tertentu adalah yang paling sering ditemukan dalam tiga vlog kecantikan karena istilah yang digunakan oleh vloggers kecantikan ini lebih populer dan umum digunakan dalam komunitas kecantikan Indonesia dan adanya kekurangan kata-kata yang setara dalam bahasa Indonesia. Dengan demikian, tiga vlogger kecantikan mencampurkan bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia ketika mereka memberi ulasan tentang lima foundation favorit mereka. Disarankan bagi peneliti selanjutnya untuk melakukan penelitian dengan mempertimbangkan teori electronic discourse atau discourse analysis. Karena teori electronic discourse dapat diterapkan pada berbagai teori linguistik. Penulis juga menyarankan peneliti berikutnya untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis code-mixing dan alasan-alasan penggunaan code-mixing dalam jenis vlog lainnya, seperti vlog kuliner, vlog gaming, atau lainnya.

English Abstract

Code-mixing occurs when bilingual people mix two languages in order to explain something. Thus, this research aims to identify the types of code-mixing and to investigate the possible reasons of using code-mixing employed by Indonesian beauty vloggers in performing their reviews in “My Top Five Foundations” vlogs. Qualitative method and document analysis is applied in this research. The data source of this research is three beauty vlogs entitled “My Top Five Foundations” uploaded by Suhay Salim, Molita Lin, and Linda Kayhz in YouTube and its transcript. In analyzing the data the writer uses the theory of the types of code-mixing and reasons of using code-mixing proposed by Hoffman (1991). This research reveals that intra-sentential, intra-lexical and involving a change of pronunciation found in Suhay Salim‟s utterances. The types of making emblematic, intra-sentential, intra-lexical and borrowing word are found in Molita Lin utterances. The types of making emblematic, intra-sentential, intra lexical, and involving a change of pronunciation found in Linda Kayhz utterances. The reasons of talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, repetition used for clarification and expressing group identity found in Suhay Salim‟s utterances. The reasons of talking about particular topic, repetition used for clarification and expressing group identity found in the utterances of Molita Lin and Linda Kayhz. The types of code-mixing that most frequently used by these three beauty vloggers is intra-sentential code-mixing because the standard pattern of the sentence in English and Indonesian is almost the same. The reason of talking about particular topics is the most frequently reason found in three beauty vlogs because the terms used by these beauty vloggers are already popular and commonly used in Indonesian beauty community and there is lack of equivalent words in Indonesian. The three Indonesian beauty vloggers mix English and Indonesian when they are reviewing their five favorite foundations. It is encouraged for further researcher to conduct a research by considering the theory of electronic discourse or discourse analysis. Since electronic discourse can be applied on various linguistics theories. The writer also suggests the next researchers to analyze the types of code-mixing and the reasons of code-mixing in other kinds of vlogs, such as culinary vlogs, gaming vlogs, or etc.
