Nugraha, Bayu Eka (2018) Pengaruh Suplementasi Ekstrak Teh Hijau (Camellia sinensis) Terhadap Kadar Malondialdehid (MDA) Plasma pada Individu Dengan Aktivitas Fisik Submaksimal. Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

Subjek berjumlah 20 orang mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Olahraga Universitas Negeri Malang, terbagi atas 2 kelompok, yaitu kelompok perlakuan diberikan ekstrak teh hijau (Tegreen 250 mg) dan kelompok kontrol diberikan plasebo. Suplemen diberikan satu tablet per hari selama empat belas hari sebelum aktivitas fisik submaksimal.

English Abstract

Introduction: Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) is a natural substance that is readily available in the community. Green Tea extract (polyphenolic catechins) has been proven in vitro to have the ability as an antioxidant. Submaximal physical activity causes an increase of free radicals. The increase of free radicals can be detected by the increase of MDA, which is the end product of lipid peroxidation Objective: To Determine the effects of Green Tea Extract supplementation against free radicals in submaximal physical activity by measuring plasma MDA. Methods: This double-blind controlled trial was performed in human with submaximal physical activity in the form of 1500 meters running in 12 minutes using a treadmill at the speed of 7.5 km/h. Subjects were 20 students of faculty of sports science in University of Malang, which were divided into 2 groups: 1. Green Tea extract group, in which Tegreen was given 250 mg; and 2. The control group, which was given a placebo. Supplement was given as one caps a day for fourteen days prior to submaximal physical activity. The plasma MDA was taken before, two hours after, and 48 hours after the submaximal physical activity. Analysis of the results used ANOVA and post hoc Tukey. The study has been assessed by Ethics Committee of the Medical and Health, Brawijaya University, Indonesia. Results: There was increase of plasma MDA level after submaximal physical activity in control group. Plasma MDA level significantly decreased in treatment group after 48 hours of submaximal physical activity. The difference of plasma MDA level between the two groups was significant in basal, 2 hours and 48 hours after submaximal physical activity. Conclusions: Submaximal physical activity will increase the plasma levels of MDA. Green tea extract can decrease plasma level of MDA after basal, 2 hours and 48 hours of submaximal physical activity, through the mechanism of free radical scavengers and metal chelator.
