Abstract

Kata kunci: Candida albicans, ekstrak etanol daun inggu (Ruta angustifolia (L.) Pers), antifungi. vi ABSTRACT Candida albicans is the most common cause of opportunistic infection in human especially in immunodeficiency person. Oral candidiasis is the most common manifestation in human, its prevalence in Indonesia is 40%. Having systemic candidiasis increases the mortality rate to 71%-79%. Instead of that, one of the ultimate therapy that used to cure candidiasis has developed resistance. Therefore, an effective antifungal therapy is in the search. Inggu’s leaf which contain saponin and tannin have been known to be an effective antifungal compounds. This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of inggu’s leaf ethanol extracts to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans in vitro. The samples were obtained from fungal stock provided by the microbiology laboratory of the School of Medicine Brawijaya University. The concentrations of extract used were 0%, 15%, 17,5%, 20%, 22,5% and 25%. The used method was the tube dilution. The statistical test one-way ANOVA showed significant differences in the changes of inggu’s leaf extract concentrations on the Candida albicans colony numbers (p <0.05). The correlation test showed that inggu’s leaf etanol extract inhibit the growth of Candida albicans colony (correlation, r = -0.822: p <0.05). The conclusion is that inggu’s leaf (Ruta angustifolia (L.) Pers) ethanol extract has an antifungal effect against Candida albicans with minimum bactericidal concentration of 25% and the minimum inhibitory concentration can’t be proved with tube dilution method.
