Abstract

Kota Pasuruan dipilih karena melimpahnya produk linguistik (pada papan nama usaha) yang tersedia secara alami di ruang publik. Secara histori kota Pasuruan merupakan pusat kerasidenan pada masa pemerintah Hindia Belanda sebagai pusat administrasi dan ekonomi. Daerah tersebut dapat menunjukkan adanya keberagaman bahasa dan budaya dengan maraknya papan nama usaha dan iklan di ruang publik. Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang etnis yang mendiami pusat Kota Pasuruan. Titik fokus pada penelitian ini ialah bagaimana identitas etnis diinterpretasikan di ruang publik melalui representasi etnis melalui huruf latin, bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Jawa dan bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan kekhasan nama penggunaan bahasa ruang publik yang dapat mencerminkan identitas etnis masing-masing. Penelitian ini menggunakan pisau bedah lanskap linguistik yang diharapkan dapat mengulas kehidupan sosial etnis di Kota Pasuruan. Data diperoleh melalui dokumentasi foto dan wawancara dengan pemilik usaha tersebut. Pemilik usaha yang diwawancara dipilih dengan teknik random sampling. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu 1) tiga etnis yang memadati ruang publik yaitu etnis Arab, Cina, dan Jawa. 2) kaidah frasa pada etnis Arab dan Jawa paling banyak berstruktur FNS N+N bermakna gramatikal ‘milik’, sementara pada representasi identitas etnis Cina paling banyak berstruktur FNS N+A bermakna gramatikal ‘keadaan’. pemertahanan identitas etnis Arab dan Cina lebih menonjol daripada etnis Jawa karena representasi etnis melalui huruf latin dan melalui bahasa Indonesia. Etnis Jawa terkesan lebih ingin keluar dari identitas etnisnya karena representasi etnis melalui huruf latin dan melalui bahasa Inggris. 3) Ditinjau dari letak penyebarannnya, etnis Cina dan Arab lebih menargetkan mangsa pasar yang berekonomi menengah ke atas daripada etnis Jawa.

English Abstract

Pasuruan City was chosen because the abundance of linguistic products (on business signs) that were available naturally in public spaces. Historically Pasuruan City was a center of detention in the reign of the Dutch East Indies as a center of administration and economy. The area can show the diversity of languages and cultures with the rise of business signs and advertisements in public spaces. This study examines the ethnicity that inhabits the center of Pasuruan. The focal point in this study is about how ethnic identity interpreted in the public space through latin letters, Indonesian, Javanese and English. This study aims to find specificity of language use in public spaces that can represent respective ethnic identity. This study uses a scalpel that discusses linguistics which expected can review social life in Pasuruan City. Data is obtained through photos and interviews with the business owner. Business owners interviewed were selected by random sampling techniques. The results of this study are 1) three ethnic groups who packed public spaces namely Arab, Chinese, and Javanese. 2) the phrase rules for Arab and Javanese ethnicities have the most grammatical 'belonging' structure, while ethnic Chinese representatives have the most grammatical 'situation'. 3) The defense of Arab and Chinese ethnic identities is more prominent than Javanese because they represent ethnicity through latin letters and Indonesian. Javanese ethnic seem want to get out of their ethnic identity because they represent ethnicity through latin letters and English. 3) reviewed from the location of its distribution, ethnic Chinese and Arab are more targeting market share with middle to upper economies than Javanese.
