Abstract
Berbicara adalah salah satu dari empat keterampilan Bahasa yang harus dikuasai untuk memudahkan siswa dalam berkomunikasi dan untuk menghindari kesalahpahaman di kelas. Namun, ada begitu banyak tantangan dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris karena berhubungan dengan berbagai faktor, seperti faktor psikologis, linguistik, sosial dan faktor pengajar. Demikian, faktor-faktor tersebut berkontribusi pada masalah berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap masalah berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian dilakukan di SMK PGRI 3 Malang, pada siswa kelas 10. Terdapat 120 partisipan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Ur (1996) sebagai dasar penelitian. Pendekatan kuantitatif dan survei digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data penelitian diperoleh dari kuesioner. Kuesioner penelitian ini terdiri dari 21 pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan masalah siswa dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris, dengan menggunakan skala likert 5 poin yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Deskriptif statistik digunakan untuk menganalisis skor ratarata siswa. Menurut hasil perspektif siswa pada masalah berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris menunjukkan bahwa faktor psikologis memiliki perolehan skor rata-rata tertinggi diantara faktor yang lainnya, diikuti oleh faktor linguistik dan faktor sosial, dan faktor yang memiliki perolehan rata-rata terendah adalah faktor pengajar. Terdapat dua faktor utama yang berkontribusi terhadap masalah berbicara siswa. Hal tersebut adalah (1) siswa kesulitan untuk menyusun kalimat, yang merupakan bagian dari linguistik dan (2) siswa takut membuat kesalaham, yang merupakan bagian dari faktor psikologis. Peneliti berharap guru memberikan lebih banyak latihan yang berhubungan dengan menyusun kalimat dan memberikan semangat pada siswa karena kurangnya kepercayaan diri adalah salah satu faktor utama yang berkontribusi terhadap masalah berbicara siswa menggunakan Bahasa Inggris.
English Abstract
Speaking is one of the four language skills that should be mastered to make students easier to communicate and to avoid misunderstanding at class. However, there are so many challenges in speaking since it deals with various factors such as psychological, linguistic, social and instructor factors. Thus, those factors contribute to students speaking problems. This study aims to find out students’ perspective on speaking problems. The study was conducted in SMK PGRI 3 Malang, on the 10th grade students. The participants of this research were 120 students. This research used the theory from (Ur,1996) as the foundation of the research. This research used quantitative approach and survey as the design of the study. The data were obtained from the questionnaire. the questionnaire of this study consists of 21 questions related to students speaking problems as the instrument of this study with 5 point likert scale used to collect the data. A descriptive statistic was used to analyze the mean score and standard deviation score of the media.According to the result of students’ perspective on speaking problems it showed that psychological factor has the highest mean score among other factors, followed by linguistic factor and social factor and the lowest mean score is instructor factor. There are two main factors that contribute to students speaking problems. Those are (1) hard to construct sentences which is part of linguistic and (2) fear of making mistakes which is part of psychological. The researcher hope, the teacher provides more excercises about constructing sentences for the students and encourage students to speak English since lack of confidence is one of the main factors that contribute to students speaking problems.
