Abstract
Penelitian ini menyangkut kurangnya pemahaman tentang ilmu komunikasi dan ilmu komunikasi yang memiliki peran penting dari perkembangannya. Masyarakat hanya memandang bidang ilmu komunikasi dari ruang lingkup yang sangat terbatas. Padahal, ilmu komunikasi memiliki cakupan kajian yang luas. Namun, para sarjana komunikasi telah membawa berbagai perspektif dari latar belakang yang sangat luas. Di sisi lain, upaya untuk mengetahui seluruh ilmu dapat dilihat dari sejarah sebagai pedoman atau representasi untuk memahami kondisi kontemporer (Zelizer, 2008). Penelitian ini mencoba untuk memperkenalkan para sarjana komunikasi dari negara demokrasi transisi dan bagaimana kontribusi mereka dalam perkembangannya. Ulama komunikasi yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah Jalaluddin Rakhmat. Penelitian ini berusaha menjawab pertanyaan tentang Bagaimana mengenali karakter dan peran Jalaluddin Rakhmat sebagai sarjana komunikasi yang fenomenal dan seberapa besar kontribusinya bagi perkembangan ilmu komunikasi di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan sejarah komunikasi sebagai perspektif dan penelitian kinerja sebagai metode untuk mengenali warisan sejarah para sarjana komunikasi.
English Abstract
This research concerned the lack of understanding about communication studies and communication scholars who have important roles from its development. Society only views the field of communication science from very limited scope. In fact, communication science has a broad scope of study. However, communication scholars have brought various perspective from very spacious background. On the other side, the effort for knowing whole science could be seen from the history as a guideline or representation in order to understand the contemporary condition (Zelizer, 2008). This Research tries to introduce communication scholars from transition democracy country and How is their contribution in its development. The communication scholar who discussed in this research is Jalaluddin Rakhmat. This research attempted to answer question about How to recognize the character and the role of Jalaluddin Rakhmat as a phenomenal communication scholar and how huge is his contribution to the development of communication science in Indonesia. This research uses communication history as a perspective and performance research as a method to recognize the historical legacy of communication scholars.
