Abstract
Pasal 3 ayat (1) UU No. 40 Tahun 1999 menyatakan salah satu fungsi pers nasional adalah kontrol sosial. Namun fungsi kontrol pers dinilai masih kurang. Ketika media memberitakan peristiwa atau isu tertentu, seringkali media tidak dapat melepaskan diri dari latar ideologi atau visi lembaga, sehingga konstruksi atas realitas yang terbangun juga cenderung mengikuti perspektif yang dimiliki masing-masing media. Konstruksi yang terpapar dari media dapat menimbulkan sebuah penghakiman terhadap suatu peristiwa, penghakiman tersebut dapat mengarah kepada trial by the press. Artikel ini bermaksud mengetahui pemberitaan seperti apakah yang akan mengarah kepada trial by the press. Hasil studi ini menyatakan bahwa dalam melakukan pewartaan atau membuat berita pembunuhan Mirna, TV One telah melakukan trial by the press dengan pemberitaan yang tidak menekankan pada cover both sides.
English Abstract
Pasal 3 ayat (1) UU No. 40 of 1999 states that one of the functions of the national press is social control. But the press control function is considered to be lacking. In reporting a particular event or issue, media often cannot break away from the ideological background or vision of their own umbrella institution, so that the construction of reality just follows the interest each has. Construction exposed from the media can lead to a judgment of an event, the judgment may lead to trial by the press. This article intends to find out what kind of news will lead to a trial by the press on the case of Mirna's murder on TV One. The results of this study state that in reporting or making news of Mirna's murder, TV One has conducted a trial by the press with coverage that does not emphasize the cover of both sides.
