Abstract
Communication history merupakan kajian yang membahas hubungan antara ilmu komunikasi dan juga sejarah (Zelizer, 2008). Communication history sebagai upaya untuk menerangkan masa lalu melalui cara – cara baru (Simonson dkk, 2013). Di Indonesia sendiri Ilmu komunikasi menjadi salah satu ilmu yang berkembang secara pesat serta diminati dikalangan masyarakat dibandingkan dengan ilmu sosial yang lainnya. Melihat fenomena yang ada di Indonesia, bahwa komunikasi menjadi kajian yang populer, hal ini terlihat dari adanya peningkatan peminatan terhadap jurusan ilmu komunikasi melalui jalur SBMPTN selama beberapa tahun. Dalam hal ini penting untuk melakukan pengenalan akar kajian komunikasi yang dibawa oleh para tokoh komunikasi. Fokus penelitian ini berupaya untuk memperkenalkan tokoh komunikasi khususnya M Alwi Dahlan yang memiliki kiprah dibidang humaniora yaitu karya karya nya seperti cerpen dan karya film di-era tahun 1950 dengan menggunakan pendekatan Cultural Studies interpretive yang dicetuskan oleh James W Carey kepada masyarakat melalui metode performance research (critical arts based). Dalam hal ini metode performance research digunakan untuk memudahkan masyarakat dalam memahami dan mempelajari sejarah serta tokoh ilmu komunikasi Indonesia. Adapun implementasi performance research yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini yaitu melalui Exsensi (Eksibisi Sejarah Ilmu Komunikasi) dengan pemutaran seni video mapping. Hasil yang didapatkan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Hasil karya-karya sastra AD berfokus pada masalah-masalah sosial yang masih memiliki relevansi dengan kondisi masyarakat di Indonesia. (2) Penelitian melalui performance research Abiwara hadir sebagai upaya mengembangkan metode riset tersebut untuk memperkanalkan akar kajian dan tokoh serta menarik minat mahasiswa sebagai bentuk dinamika metode riset di era abad 21 yang diaplikasikan melalui eksibisi video mapping. (3) Mempelajari sejarah melalui seni pemutaran video mapping memudahkan mereka menangkap informasi yang disampaikan karena Exseni mampu menampilkan seni visual yang menarik dan modern.
English Abstract
Communication history is a study that discusses the relationship between science of communication and history (Zelizer, 2008). Communication history as an effort to explain the past through new ways (Simonson et al, 2013). In Indonesia itself communication science has become one of the fastest growing sciences and in demand among the public compared to other social sciences. Seeing the phenomenon that exists in Indonesia, that communication is a popular study, this can be seen from the increasing interest in communication science majors through the SBMPTN line for several years. In this case it is important to carry out the introduction of the roots of communication studies carried out by communication leaders. The focus of this study seeks to introduce communication figures, especially M Alwi Dahlan, who have gait in the field of humanities, namely his works such as short stories and film works in the 1950s era using a Cultural Studies interpretive approach which was initiated by James W Carey to the public through the method of performance research ( critical arts based). In this case the method of performance research is used to facilitate the public in understanding and studying the history and figures of Indonesian communication science. The implementation of performance research conducted in this research is through Exsensi (History of Communication Science Exhibition) with video mapping art screening. The results obtained from this study are: (1) The results of AD literature focuses on social problems that still have relevance to the condition of the people in Indonesia. (2) Research through Abiwara's performance research is present as an effort to develop the research method to introduce the roots of studies and figures and attract student interest as a form of dynamics of research methods in the 21st century era that is applied through video mapping exhibitions. (3) Studying history through the art of video mapping makes it easy for them to capture the information conveyed because Exseni is able to display interesting and modern visual art.
