Abstract

Studi-studi sebelumnya yang membahas tentang stres pada mahasiswa dalam menyusun skripsi banyak menitikberatkan pada komunikasi antara dosen pembimbing dengan mahasiswa maupun hanya sekadar mengetahui faktor penyebab terjadinya stres. Penelitian ini hadir untuk menindaklanjuti penelitian sebelumnya dengan melihat manajemen privasi mahasiswa yang terlibat dalam proses penyusunan skripsi dan kaitannya dengan dukungan sosial dalam mengurangi stres. Melalui kerangka Communication Privacy Management Theory, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis manajemen privasi yang dilakukan mahasiswa dalam upaya mendapatkan dukungan sosial untuk mengurangi stres pada penyusunan skripsi. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma interpretif dengan melibatkan 5 orang informan yaitu mahasiswa Universitas Brawijaya yang berada pada tingkat akhir dan tengah menyusun tugas akhir atau skripsi. Data dikumpulkan melalui metode wawancara dengan menggunakan analisis model interaktif Miles, Huberman dan Saldana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat faktor penyebab terjadinya stres pada mahasiswa yaitu faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Informasi privat yang dimaksud yakni informasi seputar hal-hal yang menyebabkan permasalahan pada penyusunan skripsi dan kondisi stres yang dialami mahasiswa. Dalam berbagi informasi, mahasiswa menentukan kriteria untuk memilih lawan bicara yang tepat. Mahasiswa memperoleh dukungan moril dan materiil. Meskipun demikian, private disclosure yang dilakukan tidak hanya membawa keuntungan bagi mahasiswa, tetapi juga membawa kerugian. Keuntungan dari private disclosure yakni pengurangan stres pada mahasiswa yang menunjukkan fungsi komunikasi antarpribadi (to help) bekerja sebagai proses mengurangi stres. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini telah dapat menunjukkan bahwa mekanisme dukungan sosial bekerja sebagai upaya mengurangi stres melalui private disclosure. This study uses the interpretive paradigm by involving 5 informants, especially University of Brawijaya students at the final level and preparing the final project or thesis. Data were collected through interview methods using analysis of interactive models of Miles, Huberman and Saldana. The results of the study showed that there were stress factors in students, namely internal factors and external factors. Private information that discusses information about things that cause problems in the preparation of thesis and stress conditions experienced by students. In sharing information, students choose to choose the right person to speak with. Students get moral and material support. Even so, private disclosures carried out not only bring benefits to students, but also bring losses. The advantage of private disclosure is stress on students who show the function of interpersonal communication (to help) work as a process of reducing stress. Thus, this study has been able to produce evidence about social assistance carried out to deal with stress through private disclosure.
