Abstract
Penggunaan alat peranti ortodonti lepasan yang kebersihannya kurang terpelihara, khususnya komponen basis akrilik, akan meningkatkan jumlah koloni Candida albicans. Salah satu cara untuk memelihara basis akrilik peranti ortodonti lepasan adalah dengan merendamnya dalam bahan alami yang mengandung efek antifungi seperti ekstrak lidah buaya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak lidah buaya terhadap jumlah koloni Candida albicans pada basis akrilik peranti ortodonti lepasan. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 24 sampel yang dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok yaitu 2 kelompok kontrol (aquades dan klorheksidin glukonat 0,2%) dan 4 kelompok perlakuan (ekstrak lidah buaya konsentrasi 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), masingmasing kelompok terdiri dari 4 sampel. Hasil akhir dihitung jumlah koloni Candida albicans menggunakan colony counter. Hasil Uji Oneway ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol secara keseluruhan (p<0,05). Hasil Uji Korelasi Pearson didapatkan nilai -0,902 menunjukkan semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak lidah buaya, maka jumlah koloni Candida albicans semakin menurun. Hasil Uji Regresi didapatkan nilai 0,814 menunjukkan besarnya pengaruh konsentrasi ekstrak lidah buaya terhadap jumlah koloni Candida albicans adalah 81,4%. Ekstrak lidah buaya konsentrasi 25% sudah efektif dalam menurunkan jumlah koloni Candida albicans. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pemberian ekstrak lidah buaya efektif dalam menurunkan jumlah koloni Candida albicans pada basis akrilik peranti ortodonti lepasan.
English Abstract
The use of removable orthodontic appliances that are poorly maintained, especially the acrylic base components, will increase the number of colonies of Candida albicans. One way to maintain a Acrylic Base of Removable Orthodontic Appliances is to soak it in herbal substance that contain antifungal effects such as Aloe vera extract. The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of Aloe vera extract on the number of Candida albicans colonies on Acrylic Base of Removable Orthodontic Appliances. The research consisted of 24 samples divided into 6 groups, namely 2 control groups (0.2% aquadest and chlorhexidine gluconate 0,2%) and 4 treatment groups (Aloe vera extract concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), respectively the group consists of 4 samples. The final result is calculated the number of colonies of Candida albicans using a colony counter. The results of the Oneway ANOVA test showed that there were significant differences between the treatment group and the control group as a whole (p <0.05). The results of the Pearson correlation test showed a value of -0.902 indicating that the higher the concentration of Aloe vera extract, the lower the number of Candida albicans colonies. The results of the Regression test showed a value of 0.814 indicating the effect of the concentration of Aloe vera extract on the number of colonies of Candida albicans was 81.4%. Aloe vera extract concentration of 25% has been effective in reducing the number of Candida albicans colonies. The conclusion of this research is that the administration of Aloe vera extract is effective in reducing the number of Candida albicans colonies on the acrylic base of removable orthodontic appliances.
