Abstract

English Abstract

Patients in chemotherapy treatment may experience very strong nausea, which makes it difficult to consume tablets which are usually assisted with water. One strategy to overcome the problem of difficulty consuming tablets in patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment is through the development of tablet dosage forms that are designed to quickly disintegrate in the oral cavity, namely Fast Disintegrating Tablet (FDT). In this study, FDT will be applied as a delivery technology for microspheres of brown algae extract (Hormophysa triquetra). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of croscarmellose sodium on the physical properties of FDT extract of Hormophysa triquetra so the optimum formula is obtained. FDT preparations were made using the direct compression method with variations in the concentration of croscarmellose sodium that is F1 (0%), F2 (2,5%), F3 (5%), and F4 (15%). FDT extract of Hormophysa triquetra has been obtained, then tested for physical properties including friability, disintegration time, and wetting time. The results of the physical properties test were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA test at ɑ = 0,05. The effect of variations in the concentration of croscarmellose sodium on the physical properties of FDT extract of Hormophysa triquetra was analyzed by Tukey test to produce FDT extract of Hormophysa triquetra which have optimum physical properties. The results showed that variations in the concentration of Croscarmellose sodium can accelerate the disintegration time of FDT extract from Hormophysa triquetra and provide optimum physical properties of tablets. The optimum formula for FDT extract of Hormophysa triquetra based on the results of the research obtained are formulas 2, 3, and 4 with concentrations of croscarmellose sodium sequentially 2,5%, 5%, and 15%.
