Abstract

English Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae and cause damage in peripheral nerve, especially Schwann Cell. Leprosy treatment is only useful for the bacterial eradication, but it cannot recover or prevent peripheral nerve damage so early neurological damage detection to determine the presence of bacteria is necessary. We examined the level of P75NTR as early detection of peripheral nerve damage in leprosy with WHO Disability Grading as comparison. We examined patient at Kediri Leprosy Hospital. The Experimental study using spearman correlation test. ELISA was used to measure the level of P75NTR as Independent Variable. The dependent variable was measured based on score of WHO Disability Grading. The Correlation test results between rate of P75NTR with WHO Disability Grading on MB showed the correlation coefficient value of 0.958 with p= 0.000. This means that there is very strong correlation between P75 and WHO Disability Grading on MB patients. The Correlation test results between rate of P75NTR with WHO Disability Grading on PB showed the correlation coefficient value of 0.977 with p= 0.000. This means that there is very strong correlation between P75 and WHO Disability Grading on PB patients. Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that cause damage in peripheral nerve especially Schwann cells. Early detection of peripheral nerve damage is needed. Examination of P75NTR may be used for early detection correlated with WHO disability grading.
