Uji Daya Hambat Ekstrak Daun Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) terhadap Streptococcus pyogenes secara In Vitro

Lestari, Tri Kurnia (2018) Uji Daya Hambat Ekstrak Daun Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) terhadap Streptococcus pyogenes secara In Vitro. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

Streptococcus pyogenes is one of pathogenic microbes that cause infectious diseases which also occurs in humans. Infection which caused by Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria can occur due to the interaction of bacterial virulence factors with host cells. These bacteria can cause various diseases, such as pharyngitis, impetigo, erysipelas, purpura fever, scarlet fever. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of antimicrobial extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) on the growth of Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. Starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) contains active substances such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids / triterpenoids that have the ability to inhibit bacterial growth. This research used experimental design using disc diffusion test with concentration of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L) extract 0%, 3,125%, 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. Based on the research results obtained the smallest inhibition zone formed at concentrations of 3.125% with a diameter of 6.5 mm while the largest inhibition zone at 100% concentration with a diameter of 18.6mm. One-Way ANOVA statistical test results obtained a significant value of 0.000 (p <0.05) which showed a significant effect difference among the seven concentration groups. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the concentration of starfruit leaves extract has a significant effect in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria.
