Abstract
Kegiatan penerjemahan tidak mudah dilakukan karena seorang penerjemah harus mempertimbangkan arti dari teks aslinya. Oleh karena itu, seorang penerjemah harus menggunakan prosedur penerjemahan. Prosedur penerjemahan yang dianalisis dalam penelitian ini diambil dari teori Newmark (1988). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan abstrak skripsi fakultas hukum di Universitas Brawijaya. Pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis dokumen digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data penelitian ini adalah 10 abstrak skripsi yang ditulis oleh mahasiswa Fakultas Hukum Universitas Brawijaya. Peneliti menetapkan beberapa kriteria untuk memilih sumber data, kemudian data dianalisis dengan mengklasifikasikan semua temuan berdasarkan klasifikasi prosedur penerjemahan yang dikemukakan oleh Newmark (1988). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa penerjemah sudah memahami konsep makna. Ada beberapa prosedur penerjemahan yang tidak setara dikarenakan beberapa penerjemah terlalu menggunakan metode penerjemahan kata demi kata daripada menggunakan kamus hukum. Namun, peneliti menemukan bahwa ada beberapa perubahan yang diperlukan untuk membuat terjemahan menjadi alami ke dalam Bahasa sasaran (Bsa). Terutama penggunaan Cultural Equivalent dan Though Translation yang harus mengikuti istilah-istilah hukum. Penelitian ini masih dapat dikembangkan dengan menganalisis metode penerjemahan dan menggunakan objek yang berbeda. Peneliti berharap agar penelitian selanjutnya dapat dilakukan dengan topik serupa dan mendapatkan hasil menarik yang berbeda dari temuan penelitian ini.
English Abstract
Translation activity is not easy to practice because a translator has to consider the meaning of the original text. Therefore, he has to use the procedures of translation. The translation procedures analyzed in this research were proposed by Newmark (1988). The objective of this research is to discover the translation procedures used by the translators in translating thesis abstracts of faculty of law in Universitas Brawijaya. This study used qualitative approach and document analysis to base the collection of data. The data of this research were 10 thesis abstracts written by students of Faculty of Law in Universitas Brawijaya. The researcher set several criteria to select the data source, then the data were analyzed by classifying the findings based on the classification of translation procedures proposed by Newmark (1988). The results showed that some of the translators had already understood the concept of meaning. There were several translation procedures that was not equivalent because the translator chose the method of word for word translation, instead of following law dictionary. However, in the findings, the researcher found that there were several changes needed in order to make the translation became more natural for the target language. Especially the use of Cultural Equivalent and Though Translation that have to follow the law terms. This research could still be developed by analyzing the method of translation and using different objects. The researcher hoped that the future researcher would be able to conduct a research on related topic with the current research and find interesting results that differ from the current research.
