Abstract
Lirik lagu dapat mengekspresikan emosi dan kondisi sosial masyarakat. Bahkan, lirik lagu juga dapat digunakan sebagai cara untuk menyampaikan perlawanan. Sebuah band bernam Reagan Youth yang memiliki semangat perlawanan dalam lirik lagu mereka. Reagan Youth dikenal sebagai salah satu band hardcore dari Kota New York. Lagu – lagu mereka yang berjudul In Dog We Trust, Urban Savages, and I Hate, Hate, Hate adalah simbol anti pemerintah. Lagu – lagu ini mewakili kondisi masyarakat Amerika Serikat pada era 1980 – an yang jatuh dalam kondisi ekonomi yang buruk. Penelitian ini menggunakan kontra-hegemoni dan resistensi sebagai teori untuk menganalisis ide anti-pemerintahan yang digambarkan dalam tiga lagu dari band Reagan Youth. Beberapa sumber tentang komunitas hardcore dan biografi Ronald Reagan digunakan sebagai referensi untuk mendukung analisis untuk penelitian ini. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa tiga lagu dari Reagan Youth dapat menyampaikan ekspresi anti pemerintahan. Bersama dengan lagu – lagu mereka, Reagan Youth menyebarkan pesan orang-orang miskin yang berisi gagasan anti perbudakan di era waktu kepresidenan Ronald Reagan yaitu antara 1981 hinggal 1989. Pada akhirnya, disarankan untuk peneliti selanjutnya menggunakan Pendekatan Sosiologis dalam buku atau film documenter dari band hardcore/punk lain,karena musik hardcore dan punk selalu mengandung pesan kebebasan dan anti-perbudakan
English Abstract
Song lyrics can express the emotion and social condition of society. Moreover song lyrics cn also be used as the way to deliver a resistance.There is one band called Reagan Youth that have a spirit of resistance in their song lyrics. Reagan Youth known as one of some New York hardcore band’s.Their songs entitled In Dog We Trust, Urban Savages, and I Hate, Hate are symbol of anti-goverment. These songs represent to United States of America society condition in 1980’s era which is run out into poor economic conditions. The research use counter – hegemony and resistance as the theory to analyze the anti – goverment idea which is depicted in the three songs of Reagan Youth band. Some sources about hardcore scene and Ronald Reagan’s niography are used as the references to support the anlysis for this research. The result of this study shows that the three songs from Reagan Youth’s can deliver the expression of anti – goverment. Along with their songs, Reagan Youth spreads the messages of poor people voices which is containing the anti – slavery idea in between the Ronald Reagan presidency timeline which is happened between 1981 and 1989. Finally, it is suggested to the further researchers use the Sociological approcah approaches in other hardcore/punk band documentary movie or book, because hardcore and punk music always contains a message of freedom and anti – slavery.
