Abstract

Sastra merupakan bagian dari hidup manusia yang memiliki banyak jenis dan salah satunya adalah film. Film adalah karya sastra yang disertai suara dan gambar di dalamnya. Banyak aspek yang bisa diteliti dari sebuah film. Penulis memilih Alice Through The Looking Glass sebagai objek dari penelitian. Terdapat dua pertanyaan yang akan dijawab dalam penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) apa saja jenis trauma masa kecil yang dialami oleh Mad Hatter dalam fil Alice Through The Looking Glass; (2) bagaimana trauma masa kecil mempengaruhi perubahan kepribadian pada Mad Hatter dalam film. Kedua pertanyaan tersebut akan dijawab menggunakan teori PTSD oleh Steven Taylor (2006). Penulis melakukan analisis pada perubahan kepribadian pad Mad Hatter yang disebabkan oleh trauma masa kecil pada film Alice Through The Looking Glass Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan karena bentuk dari data sesuai dengan pendekatan tersebut, dan dengan metodenya menghasilkan kata-kata daripada angka-angka sebagai data untuk analisis. Data diambil dari percakapan dan beberapa adegan pada film Alice Through The Looking Glass. Penulis memilih film ini karena terdapat trauma masa kecil yang dialami oleh karakternya. Penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa Mad Hatter mengalami tiga trauma masa kecil, yaitu penolakan pada masa kecil, perselisihan kesalahpahaman dengan ayahnya, dan kehilangan keluarga. Trauma yang dialami membawa Hatter ke Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sebagai hasil, Mad Hatter menderita empat gejala dari PTSD, antara lain traumatic stressor, re-experiencing, avoidance dan numbing, dan hyperarousal. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa kejadian traumatis yang dialami oleh anak-anak berlanjut sampai mereka dewasa. Hal tersebut dapat menyebabkan mereka untuk memiliki Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder dan mengakibatkan mereka untuk mengalami perubahan atau perkembangan pada kepribadiannya.

English Abstract

Literature is a part of human life that comes in various forms and one of them is film. Film is literary work that comes in both audio and visual. There are many aspects in film that can be analysed. The writer chooses Alice Through The Looking Glass as the object of this study. There are two problems to be solved in the study, namely: (1) what kind of childhood traumatic experienced by Mad Hatter in Alice Through The Looking Glass movie; (2) how childhood traumatic experiences affect Mad Hatter’s personality change in the movie. Both problems of the study are answered by using PTSD theory by Steven Taylor (2006). The writer conducted a personality changed on Mad Hatter caused by traumatic childhood found in Alice Through The Looking Glass movie. Qualitative approach used because the data’s form is suited with the approach, and its methods generate words rather than numbers as data for analysis. The data were taken from Alice Through The Looking Glass movie. The writer chooses this movie since it is contain childhood trauma encountered by the character. This study reveals that Mad Hatter experiences three traumatic childhoods, which are childhood rejection, dispute of misunderstanding with his father, and lost his family. The traumatic events lead Hatter into having Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. As the result, Mad Hatter suffers from four symptoms of PTSD, which are traumatic stressor, re-experiencing, avoidance and numbing, and hyperarousal. From this study it can be concluded that traumatic event that experienced by children continues until they adult. It can lead them into having Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and caused them to have change or develop in their personality.
