Abstract

Tongkol jagung merupakan salah satu limbah pertanian yang mengandung bahan lignoselulosa yang berpotensial untuk dikembangkan menjadi bioetanol. Di Indonesia limbah tongkol jagung yang dihasilkan sekitar 2,29 juta. Komponen utama limbah tongkol jagung yaitu selulosa (32,3-45,6%), hemiselulosa (39,8%), dan lignin (6,7-13,9%). Proses pretreatment dengan menggunakan pulsed electric field (PEF) dan konsentrasi NaOH 1,5 M menjadi salah satu solusi untuk menguraikan senyawa lignin dan hemiselulosa dari limbah tongkol jagung, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kadar selulosa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) yang disusun secara faktorial dengan 2 faktor. Faktor I adalah durasi perlakuan PEF dengan variasi 30, 60, 90 detik dan Faktor II adalah ukuran serbuk tongkol jagung dengan variasi 35, 60, 80 mesh. Parameter yang diukur dalam penelitian ini adalah kandungan selulosa, hemiselulosa, dan lignin padatan tongkol jagung menggunakan metode Chesson. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan ANOVA (Analysis of Variance), dan jika terdapat interaksi antara kedua faktor, maka analisis dilanjutkan dengan uji BNT ( Beda Nyata Terkecil) atau LSD ( Least Significance Different) 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terjadi interaksi antara perlakuan durasi pretreatment dan ukuran serbuk tongkol jagung terhadap kadar selulosa dan lignin ditandai dengan nilai vii F hitung < F tabel 5%. Namun, secara terpisah perlakuan ukuran serbuk berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap kadar selulosa tongkol jagung dengan nilai F hitung > F tabel 1%. Sedangkan durasi pretreatment tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar selulosa tongkol jagung ditandai dengan nilai F hitung < F tabel 5%, tetapi berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar lignin tongkol jagung ditandai dengan nilai F hitung > F tabel 5%. Perlakuan terbaik diperoleh menggunakan metode Multiple Attribute pada lama pretreatment PEF 90 detik dan ukuran serbuk 80 mesh. Pada perlakuan tersebut dihasilkan kadar selulosa 66,4539%, hemiselulosa 25,6172%, dan lignin 4,0207%.

English Abstract

Corncob is one of agricultural wastes containing lignocellulose material. It has a potential to be developed into bioethanol. In Indonesia, the amount of corncob waste is around 229 million. The main components of corncob waste are cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The pretreatment using Pulse Electric Field and NaOH 1,5 M become a solution to degrade lignin and hemicellulose compounds from corncob to increase cellulose content. The research method used in this research was Randomized Block Design (RAK) with two factors. The first factor was the durations of PEF treatment, which were 30, 60, and 90 seconds. The second factor was the sizes of corncob powder, which were 35, 60, and 80 meshes. The parameter measured in this research was the main components of corncob : cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The measurement of corncob components was using Chesson method. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using ANOVA and if there was an interaction between two factors, the data would be analyzed with LSD (Least Significance Different) 5%. The results showed that there was no interaction between durations of PEF treatment and the sizes of corncob powder on cellulose and lignin contents characterized by F calculate < F table 5%. However, separately, the sizes of corncob powder treatment had very significant effect on corncob cellulose content with F calculate > F table 1%. While the duration of PEF treatment had no significant effect on the content of corncob cellulose characterized by F calculate < F table 5%, but had ix significant on lignin content, characterized by F calculate > F table 5%. The best treatment was obtained using Multiple Attribute method in 90 seconds duration of PEF and 80 meshes on the sizes of corncob powder. The best treatment resulted cellulose content 66,4539%, hemicellulose 25,6172%, and lignin 4,0207%.
