Arifin, Lalu Imaduddin (2018) Manusia-Manusia Marco: Gagasan Kemanusiaan Marco Kartodikromo dalam Karya-Karya Sastranya (Studi Cultural Studies Terhadap Pemikiran Sastrawan Marco Kartodikromo Pada Masa Kolonialisme Hindia Belanda). Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
This research was started with the fact that the reference on the many forms of the early Indonesian literature beyond what was been formalized by Balai Pustaka was very limited. This research was trying to digging up and featuring the intellectual aspect of a one literature artist in the middle of the cultural, history, and the political construction in the Dutch East Indies within a critical frame of thought. The said writer was called Marco Kartodikromo. Marco Kartodikromo is a journalist who was a founder of IJB (Indlansche Journalisten Bond, which is the first journalistic organization in Indonesia), a writer, and an activist of many movement and organization in the early 20th century; among others was Sarekat Islam and Sarekat Rakyat. As a journalist his name was famous within a certain group of people that have an interest in the Indonesian’s age of movement. But as a literature writer, he was not as popular as his movement as a journalist. Eventhough his contribution in the formation of the modern Indonesian literature can not be disregarded. This research tried to answer that gaping phenomenon by starting with asking a research question of “how” to be able to properly explained the said phenomenon and it’s relation with the related variables. This research used hermeneutics as the method of analytics within a historical-contextual framework, assisted by Homi K. Bhabha theroritical works on post-colonialism to be able to reach a holistic and critical result. The result of data analysis found that the thinking aspect of Marco Kartodikromo was concentrated on the problems of humanity which was divided into several variables; that is (1) woman and equality; (2) East-West conflict resolution; (3) art/literature that side with the humanity. The result also found that the dominant narrative under Balai Pustaka was the main culprit on the elimination of the many forms and styles of the early Indonesian literature. Which is then, the name of Marco Kartodikromo was not involved in the formation of the modern Indonesian literature.
