Abstract
Penelitian ini membahas tentang konstruksi sosial yang terbangun dalam festival film melalui peran dan kontribusi kurator serta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kurator dalam pemilihan film yang diputar dalam Brawijaya Movie Exhibition tahun 2017. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori konstruksi sosial yang dikemukakan oleh Peter L. Berger dan Thomas Luckmann untuk menganalisis konstruksi sosial pada konstruksi pemikiran kurator untuk menjawab kontribusi kurator dan faktorfaktor yang mempengaruhi kurator dalam pemilihan film pada Brawijaya Movie Exhibition. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi yang bertujuan untuk melihat pengalaman keseharian yang membentuk konstruksi pemikiran kurator sehingga berdampak terhadap pilihan film dalam festival. Penelitian ini menggunakan sumber data utama melalui wawancara mendalam dengan teknik purposive sampling dan juga observasi. Data pendukung didapatkan dengan melakukan studi arsip sebagai penguat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konstruksi pemikiran kurator terbangun melalui pengalaman keseharian, latar belakang, pola interaksi, dan jaringan informasi kurator dalam memandang medium film. Selain itu pengetahuan kurator tentang film meliputi ketertarikan tema atau isu dalam film serta momentum yang mengubah cara pikir dikarenakan film. Kurator berkontribusi dalam suatu festival film untuk memilih film-film yang akan ditayangkan dan berdialog dengan tim program demi untuk menjaga keragaman dan mengembangkan perfilman.
English Abstract
This research examines how the social construction built in film festival through the curator’s role and contribution, and the factors that influence them in selecting the films played in Brawijaya Movie Exhibition 2017. This research uses Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann’s social construction theory for analyzing the social construction of curator's thinking to know the contribution of the curators and the factors that influence them in selecting the films in Brawijaya Movie Exhibition. Qualitative method with phenomenology approach is used as methodology to analyze the daily experiences that shaped the construction of the curator's thinking, thereby impacting the choice of films in the festival. The primary data of this research are in-depth interview with purposive sampling technique and observation. Secondary data is obtained by archive study as reinforcement. The analysis of these materials demonstrates that the construction of curatorial thinking is built through daily experiences, background, interaction patterns, and curator’s information network in viewing the film medium. In addition, curator's film knowledge that include interest in film’s themes or issues leads to a momentum of change in the way they view the film. In Brawijaya Movie Exhibition, curator’s contribution is to select the films in order to preserve the diversity and development of the films.
