Abstract

Minyak jarak merupakan bahan bakar alternatif biodiesel untuk mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap bahan bakar fosil. Penggunaan minyak jarak sebagai bahan bakar alternatif bertujuan untuk menanggulangi kelangkaan bahan bakar minyak yang sering terjadi di Indonesia. Untuk mereaksikan minyak nabati cukup sulit karena memiliki ikatan rantai yang panjang, sehingga diperlukan zat untuk mempercepat laju reaksi dengan menambahkan katalis. Pada penelitian ini karbon aktif batok kelapa dan minyak cengkeh masing-masing ditambahkan sebagai zat untuk memutus rantai pada trigliserida agar dapat mempercepat laju reaksi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan kadar karbon aktif batok kelapa dan minyak cengkeh terhadap reaksi pembakaran droplet minyak jarak dan membandingkan katalis mana yang lebih efektif untuk digunakan dalam penambahannya ke minyak jarak. Kadar karbon aktif dan minyak cengkeh yang ditambahkan pada penelitian ini yaitu sebesar 0ppm, 100ppm, 200ppm, 300ppm, dan 400ppm terhadap massa minyak jarak. Berdasarkan data hasil dari penelitian penambahan karbon aktif batok kelapa dan minyak cengkeh menurunkan ignition delay, dimensi api, dan temperatur pembakaran. Nilai burning rate semakin besar karena reaksi pembakaran semakin cepat.

English Abstract

In order to cope with fossil fuel dependant, jatropha oil can be one of the biodiesel fuel alternatives. The use of jatropha oil as an alternative fuel aims to tackle the scarcity of fuel oil that often occurs in Indonesia. However, vegetable oil is rather difficult to react because of its lengthy structure, therefore, it needs particular substances with adding catalys to fasten the reaction processes. This research investigated the coconut shell active carbon and clove oil addition to cut the tryglyceride chain in order to fasten the reaction rate. The research objectives are to find out the influence of coconut shell active carbon and clove oil addition toward the reaction of droplet combustion with jatropha oil, and then to compare which of the substances is more effective to add to clove oil. The amount of active carbon and clove oil added was 0ppm, 100ppm, 200ppm, 300ppm, and 400ppm according to the jatropha oil mass. According to the research result, coconut shell active carbon and clove oil addition lowers the ignition delay, flame dimention and combustion temperature. The burning rate are higher as the combustion reaction is fastened.
