Abstract

Penggunaan obat nyamuk bakar dapat mengemisikan partikel yang melebihi standar kualitas udara sehat yang beresiko terhadap penyakit pernafasan. D-allethrin dalam obat nyamuk merupakan radikal bebas yang akan menyebabkan gangguan pada sistem respirasi, seperti iritasi pada jaringan paruparu, batuk, radang tenggorokan (faringitis), dan asma. Buah semangka (Citrullus lanatus) memiliki kandungan antioksidan berupa likopen yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui terapi preventif ekstrak semangka (Citrullus lanatus) terhadap kadar MDA dan aktivitas SOD serum tikus (Rattus norvegicus) yang dipapar asap obat nyamuk. Penelitian ini menggunakan tikus (Rattus norvegicus) yang terbagi dari lima kelompok, yaitu kelompok K(-) yang tidak diberi perlakuan dan paparan, dan kelompok yang diberi paparan asap obat nyamuk Tigaroda® selama 4 jam/hari yang terdiri dari kelompok K(+), P1, P2, dan P3 selama 20 hari. Sebelum dipapar asap obat nyamuk tersebut, kelompok perlakuan P1, P2 dan P3 diberikan ekstrak semangka (Citrullus lanatus) secara berturut-turur sebanyak 25 mg/kg BB, 50 mg/kg BB, dan 100 mg/kg BB. Parameter yang diamati adalah kadar MDA menggunakan metode spektrofotometer dan aktivitas SOD menggunakan metode spektrofotometer. Analisa data kadar MDA dan aktivitas SOD dilakukan secara statistik kuantitatif dengan metode ANOVA dilanjutkan dengan BNJ (α=0,05). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian preventif ekstrak semangka (Citrullus lanatus) secara signifikan (p<0,05) mampu meningkatkan aktivitas SOD dan mencegah peningkatan kadar MDA. Dosis 100 mg/kgBB merupakan dosis preventif terbaik. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak semangka (Citrullus lanatus) dapat digunakan sebagai preventif terhadap paparan asap obat nyamuk.

English Abstract

The used of mosquito coils can produce emission particles greater than the standard of healthy air quality that have risks causing both of acute and chronic respiration disease. D-allethrin containing in mosquito coils is a free radical which has potential causing respiratory disorders such as lung tissues irritation, cough, sore throat (pharyngitis) and asthma. Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) contains high concentration of lycopene as antioxidant. The aims of this study is to analyze the preventive effects watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) extract toward MDA and SOD activity in rats (Rattus Novergicus) serum exposed to mosquito coils smoke. This study used mice (Rattus norvegicus), which were divided into five groups, the untreated and exposed group K (-), and the group exposed to Tigaroda® mosquito smoke for 4 hours / day consisting of K (+) groups , P1, P2, and P3 for 20 days. Prior to exposure to the smoke, the treatment groups P1, P2 and P3 were given watermelon extract (Citrullus lanatus) at 25 mg/kg BW, 50 mg/kg BW, and 100 mg/kg BW, respectively. The parameters observed were MDA content using spectrophotometer method and SOD activity using spectrophotometer method. The observed parameters are MDA and SOD activity using spectrophotometer method. Data of MDA and SOD activity were analyzed using quantitative statistic with ANOVA method followed by BNJ (α=0.05). The results showed that the administration of preventive extract of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) significantly (p <0.05) was able to increase the activity of SOD and prevent the increase of MDA levels. The dose of 100 mg/kg body weight is the recommended preventive dose. The conclusion of this research is watermelon extract (Citrullus lanatus) can be used as preventive against exposured to mosquito coils smoke.
