Sakti, RachmadKresna (2010) Peran Nilai Sosial Budaya North-South Corridor terhadap Aglomerasi Ekonomi di Jawa Timur. Doctor thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
There are two things that are often the distinguishing features of spatial economic activities that are the existence of concentration and inequality. Some regional economists argue that the concentration will continue to occur so will bring up the expansion of the metropolitan area. Some others argued that the concentration of economic activity at a certain scale will be fragmented and dispersed (de-concentration). In East Java, formed spatial phenomenon that is what is referred as the North-South Corridor. The formation of these corridors (to be expected) is due to the typology of culture in East Java. Based on that phenomenon, this study attempted to answer the following questions, (1) whether there is interaction between the economic dimension and socio-cultural dimension (the local community), forming north-south Corridor phenomenon. (2) If the first statement is developed, then the details of how these cultural dimensions interact with the economic dimension. The purpose of this study were (1) describe the interaction between economic and cultural dimensions (local community), forming the North-South Corridor in East Java. (2) Result descriptions were used to understand flow of mechanism on the details of the cultural dimension interacts with the economic dimension. (3) Building a model of North-South Corridor economic agglomeration which includes the economic dimension that interacts with socio-cultural dimensions. The results of this study were (1) The description of the interaction between economic and social culture dimensions East Java are as follows: a. explanation of the five elements of culture Hofstede which are: Power Distance Index (PDI), Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI), Individualism (IDV), Masculinity/Femininity (MAS), Long Term Orientation (LTO); b. division of four large communities in East Java, which consists of community Arek, Mataraman, Pandalungan, Madura Island; c. percentage distribution of GDP in each region in each community in East Java; d. social, economies and cultural interaction that make diversity agglomeration in each region in each community in East Java; e. socio-cultural economy characteristics of agglomeration in each region in each community in East Java; f. Arek community as a driving factor, integrated to the three other communities (Mataraman, Pandalungan, Madura Island) through the extended family; g. Long Term Orientation (LTO), which is the cultural element of Hofstede, as the binding factor of the diversity of socio-cultural economy behavior of the fourth community in East Java. (2) Understanding the flow of mechanism a socio-cultural dimensions in its interaction with the economic dimension, able to explain the spreading model, the transmission model of social economic and cultural values Arek community to three other communities. (3) In the spreading model, the behavior Arek communities who become the push factor of the economy in East Java will be transmitted to the three other communities through a process of acculturation and assimilation (marriage). In the end, the result of acculturation and assimilation (agglomeration community against community Arek Mataraman, Pandalungan and Madura Island) will make the economic performance in East Java better off.
