One of the goals of national development is to improve performance of the economy in order to create jobs and arrange a decent life for all people to realize the social welfare, and the main target is reducing poverty. Poverty is a great classic problem and fundamental to most developing countries, including Indonesia. Even, the leaders of the world at the Summit Millennium in the United Nations in 2000 set the goal of poverty reduction as the first in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Therefore, poverty reduction efforts must be comprehensive, covering various aspects of community life, and implemented in an integrated manner. More than 50 percent of poor people in Indonesia live in Java Island. East Java is in the first position as the province with the highest number of poor people in Indonesia, where in 2011 about 5.36 million people still live below the poverty line. A large number of poor people in East Java certainly give a significant contribution to the national poverty level. There are so many factors influencing poverty in East Java province. Based on the social, economic and economic institutional concept in poverty, determined the factors influencing poverty, they are education, health, economic growth, income inequality, cooperative and Rural Credit Bank. The objectives of this study are to analyze and explain the influence of: (1) education toward poverty in East Java province, (2) health toward poverty in East Java province, (3) economic growth toward poverty in East Java province, (4) income inequality toward poverty in East Java, (5) cooperative toward poverty in East Java province, (6) Rural Credit Bank toward poverty in East Java province, (7) all variable toward poverty in East Java province. This study is explanatory research using multiple linier regression analysis. The type of data is secondary data. The data used are time series data for the period 2000-2011. Data processing is carried out with the help of Software Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 16.0 for Windows. Testing is conducted on the level of significance 0.05 (5%). The results of this study are (1) the influence of education variable measured by mean years of schooling is significant negative toward the number of poor people in East Java province with a probability value of 0,004 0,05, (2) the influence of health variable measured by life expectancy is not significant toward the number of poor people in East Java province with a probability value of 0.074 0.05, (3) the influence of economic growth variable is not significant toward the number of poor people in East Java province with a probability value of 0,739 0.05, (4) the influence of income inequality variable measured by gini index is significant positive toward the number of poor people in East Java province with a probability value of 0,000 0,05, (5) the influence of cooperative variable measured by the number of active cooperative is significant negative toward the number of poor people in East Java province with probability value of vii 0,004 0,05, (6) the influence of Rural Credit Bank variable measured by number of active Rural Credit Bank is not significant toward the number of poor people in East Java with probability value of 0,572 0.05, (7) Simultaneously, variable of education, health, economic growth, income inequality, cooperative and Rural Credit Bank have a significant influence on the number of poor people in the province of East Java with the probability value of 0.002 0.05.
