Abstract

English Abstract

Current Indonesia urban redevelopment policy favors multi storey residential building (MSRB) development on previously urban slum area. This method has been chosen to promote an adequate living mainly because of its claimed advantages for sustainability. However, the relocation to MSRB has mostly ended into the collapses of social relations among slum dwellers. Since studying behavior of the slum dwellers will provide an avenue to overcome this problem, this paper is concerned with a descriptive analysis of how the MSRB residents have been facing behavioral problems. It identifies the parameters of age, education level, and also physical environment that affect the environmental behavior of the respondents. With a sample consisting of 40 respondents from MSRB residents and slum dwellers in urban redevelopment location, the result of this study showed that the environmental behavior of MSRB residents is better than that of the slum dwellers. Unfortunately, two of five parameters in environmental behavior variables which are refer to the social awareness have shown contrary result. There is some indication that the relocation from slum to MSRB result to the declining of social awareness of the MSRB residents.
