Abstract

Akumulasi zat warna jingga metil di lingkungan perairan dapat membahayakan kesehatan manusia sehingga jumlah jingga metil di lingkungan perlu dikendalikan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menguji kemampuan katalis Fe2O3-zeolit untuk mengkatalis proses fotodegradasi zat warna jingga metil dengan bantuan sinar-UV dan dilakukan karakterisasi terhadap katalis tersebut. Katalis Fe2O3-zeolit dibuat melalui proses pengembanan dari larutan FeCl3.6H2O 0,1 M dengan zeolit teraktivasi asam. Uji aktivitas fotokatalis Fe2O3-zeolit dilakukan dengan cara mendispersikan 50 mg fotokatalis tersebut ke dalam 60 mL larutan jingga metil, kemudian dimasukkan ke reaktor fotokatalitik dan diberikan sinar UV. Absorbansi filtrat diukur menggunakan spektronik-20. Konsentrasi jingga metil yang digunakan yaitu 25, 50, 75, dan 100 ppm dengan variasi lama penyinaran sinar-Uv 20, 40, 60, 80, dan 100 menit, sedangkan jumlah Fe(III) yang diimpregnasikan yaitu 20, 30, 40, dan 50 mmol Fe/g zeolit. Kondisi optimum degradasi terjadi pada lama penyinaran 80 menit, konsentrasi jingga metil 25 ppm, dan impregnasi 40 mmol Fe/ g zeolit, serta diperoleh persen degradasi sebesar 48,14%. Karakterisasi katalis Fe2O3-Zeolit dengan menggunakan metilen biru diperoleh luas permukaan spesifik 236,80 m2/g, sedangkan diuji menggunakan spektrofotometer infra merah didapatkan bilangan gelombang 520,74 cm-1 untuk Fe2O3-zeolit .

English Abstract

Accumulation of methyl orange dye in aquatic environment may endanger human health, therefore the amount of methyl orange in the environment needs to be controlled. The purpose of this research is to test the ability of Fe2O3-zeolite catalyst for catalyzing the process of methyl orange dye photo degradation with UV rays, and to characterize them. Fe2O3-zeolite catalyst was synthesised through a process of impregnation of 0.1 M solution of Fe(III) with acid activated zeolite. Photocatalyst activity test was carried out by dispersing 50 mg of photocatalyst into 60 mL solution of methyl orange, then put it into photocatalytic reactor and irradiating with UV rays. Absorbance of the filtrate was measured using spectronic-20. The concentration of methyl orange were used is 25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm with a variation of irradiation time were 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 minutes, and the amount of Fe (III) impregnated were 20, 30, 40, and 50 mmol Fe/g zeolit. Optimum conditions of degradation were achieved at irradiation time of 80 minutes, concentration of 25 ppm methyl orange, and the impregnation of 40 mmol Fe / zeolite, with 48.14% of percent degradation. Fe2O3-zeolite was characterized using methylen blue which resulted in specific surface area of 236.80 m2 /g, in addition the wavenumber of 520.74 cm-1 resulted from infrared spectrophotometry in which characterized for Fe2O3-Zeolite.
