Abstract

Poliester linier dapat difraksinasi berdasarkan metode kelarutan. Pada penelitian ini, fraksinasi dilakukan dengan penambahan metanol terhadap sampel yang dilarutkan dalam kloroform dengan variasi konsentrasi 1-5%(b/v) dilanjutkan fraksinasi pada temperatur 20-22oC, 12-15oC and 5-8oC. Pengaruh konsentrasi poliester dan temperatur fraksinasi dipelajari berdasarkan nilai perolehan dan bilangan asam untuk memperkirakan massa molekul. Titik leleh ditentukan untuk mempelajari sifat termal. Poliester yang diperoleh dari hasil fraksinasi optimum dianalisis secara FTIR dan difraksi sinar-X. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi poliester dan temperatur fraksinasi berpengaruh terhadap nilai perolehan dan massa molekul. Penurunan temperatur menyebabkan perolehan menurun tetapi bilangan asam meningkat. Peningkatan konsentrasi cenderung menghasilkan distribusi massa molekul yang sempit. Perbedaan sifat antara viskositas intrinsik dan titik leleh menunjukkan adanya pengaruh konsentrasi terhadap sifat aliran karena perbedaan morfologi dengan kristalinitas hampir sama. Analisis FTIR dan XRD poliester hasil fraksinasi pada konsentrasi 3% menunjukkan adanya gugus fungsi khas untuk poliester linier dengan derajat kristalinitas (30,5+0,2) %. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, modifikasi poliester masih perlu dilakukan untuk memperbaiki sifat bahan.

English Abstract

Linear polyester could be fractionated by solubility methods. In this research, it was done by addition methanol into sample dissolved in chloroform at concentration were 1-5%(b/v), then fractionation at temperature of 20-22oC, 12-15oC and 5-8oC. The influence of polyester concentration and fractionation temperature was studied using its recovery and acid number for estimating the molecular weight. The polyester melting point was determined to study the thermal properties. The purified polyester obtained from optimum fractionation was characterized by FTIR and X-ray diffraction. The result showed that polyester concentration and fractionation temperature could affect the recovery number and molecular weight. As the temperature decrease, the recoveries were decreasing, where as the acid number increased. It is noticing that the concentration tends to produce the narrow molecular weight distribution. The differences properties between the intrinsic viscosity and melting point of first fraction, indicating an affect of polyester concentration on the flow properties probable due to its morphology with the similar crystallinity. The FTIR and XRD analysis of fractionated polyester obtained from 3%-concentration showed the specific functional group of the linear polyester with degree of crystallinity was (30.5+0,2) %. It seems that further modification of the polyester is still need to improve the properties.
