Abstract

Membran selulosa nata de banana peel merupakan membran sintetis organik yang dibuat dari hasil fermentasi konsentrat kulit pisang. Proses fermentasi nata melibatkan aktivitas bakteri Acetobacter xylinum. Pembuatan membran selulosa nata de banana peel melalui beberapa tahapan proses, yaitu penyaringan, perebusan, fermentasi, perendaman asam dan basa, pencucian, pengepresan, dan pengovenan. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada pengaruh perlakuan pengepresan (fisik) terhadap karakteristik membran yang dihasilkan. Karakteristik yang diamati pada penelitian ini meliputi ketebalan, permeabilitas, kuat tekan, kadar air, dan porositas membran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan faktor tunggal. Faktor yang digunakan ialah variasi tekanan pengepresan yang diberikan, yakni pada penekanan 24.67 kg/cm2, 26.00 kg/cm2, 27.33 kg/cm2, 28.67 kg/cm2, dan 30.00 kg/cm2. Setiap perlakuan tekanan diulang sebanyak tiga kali. Sehingga diperoleh 15 sampel hasil perlakuan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditunjukkan bahwa nilai fluks terbaik sebesar 0,238 L/m2.jam dihasilkan dari penekanan 4500 kg. Membran tersebut memiliki ketebalan 0,4 mm, kuat tekan 0,122 MPa, kadar air (basis kering) 8,606%, dan ukuran pori 553 nm – 19 µm.

English Abstract

Cellulose membrane nata de banana peel is an organic synthetic membrane made from fermented concentrate banana peel. Nata fermentation process involves the activity of the bacteria Acetobacter xylinum. Manufacture of cellulose membrane nata de banana peel through several stages of the process, likely filtration, boiling, fermentation, acid and alkaline soaking, washing, pressing, and drying. This study focused on the influence of the pressing treatment (physical) on the characteristics of the membrane. Characteristics observed in this study include the thickness, permeability, compressive strength, moisture content and porosity of the membrane. The method used was completely randomized design with single factor. Factors used is given pressing pressure variations, the suppression of 24.67 kg/cm2, 26.00 kg/cm2, 27.33 kg/cm2, 28.67 kg/cm2, and 30.00 kg/cm2. Each pressure treatment was repeated three times. Thus obtained 15 samples of treatment. Based on the results of the study indicated that the best flux value of 0.238 L/m2.hour resulting from the suppression of 4500 kg. The membrane has a thickness of 0.4 mm, 0.122 MPa compressive strength, water content (dry basis) 8.606%, and a pore size of 553 nm - 19 μm
